Rig Rundown – Testament’s Alex Skolnick, Eric Peterson & Steve DiGiorgio [2015]
Article and photos: http://bit.ly/TestamentRR
Premier Guitar met with Eric Peterson, Alex Skolnick, and Steve DiGiorgio before Testament’s April 22, 2015, show at the Cannery Ballroom in Nashville to get the scoop on what gear the Bay Area thrashers rely on for maximum oomph and practicality.
Alex Skolnick’s Gear
Alex Skolnick tours exclusively with his new ESP signature models, which feature splittable Seymour Duncan humbuckers, TonePros bridge and tailpiece, 22XJ frets, and a 12″ fretboard radius.
Amps
Skolnick runs his 120-watt signature Budda AS Preceptor head into a matching Budda 4×12 cab. For gigs abroad that require smaller rigs, he uses a Kemper Profiler PowerHead.
Effects
Skolnick’s guitar signal first hits a Boss TU3 tuner, then runs into a Jam Pedals TubeDreamer 88, a Tone Concepts Distillery, a Boss NS-2 Noise Suppressor, a Dunlop EVH Phase 90, and then into either a Boss DD-20 or a Rocktron Reaction digital delay patched through the amp’s effects loop. When using his Kemper, Skolnick changes presets with a Behringer FCB1010 MIDI foot controller.

I "heard" the Fractal was having issues… let me sell you on the Kemper
Wait…Behringer! Much maligned budget gear? I have a few pieces of Behringer gear. Surprising.
anything Testament wants to play, Steve can play it and probably make it better.
Wow that Rickenbacker is stunning ! ????
Hi Gary!
Does anyone know what amps, pedals, settings, etc. Eric and Alex were using on the first "Legacy" album? That tone on that album is prolly the most scooped "hollowed out / metallic" thrash tone I've ever heard. I'd love to know what the trick was to get that sound. In the MTV video, it's showing Marshall heads, but not sure if that's what they were using. Now, albeit, I've seen early footage of their live shows during 1987/88, live in Eindhoven, etc. and it looks like Marshall JCM 900 heads and standard 1960-A/B Lead cabs, but there's just too much gain, hollow, and scoop for it that tone to JUST be a stock JCM900. Anyways, let me know guys! Thanks in advance!
lemmy would be proud
Wow the host used to be skinny
Metal Guys don't use Rik's? Someone forgot to tell Cliff Burton and Lemmy!
My dad has the gold ltd. Great guitar.
alex sounds like nickolas cage
Hi Alex , me i think that the sound are not only by the fingers at 100%.It's wrong to think that. It's the total ensemble of your hands , your amplifier , your strings , the pickup , the wood , effects , the pics also of course = your personnal sound.
Hi Eric and friend to PG.Eric you should recomeback to 100 watts because it's really more heavy than 50 , the fremquencies are better with the 100 , the sound is more full with 100.The volume is more easy to adjust with 50 watts. The 100 watts are more tight also.
This interviewer is a total douchebag ! He should STFU and let the artist talk instead of talking all over him.
Theres no Sandels in Metal..wtf. haha…..
Rics are my favorite body shape for basses, I have a custom lefty 5-string non-Ric, but man, ya I don't know why more metal dudes don't rock the Rics, they're still really metal-looking to me personally
10:15
What did they use for The Gathering album session ? Rectifiers ?
what is their hair treatment routine?
I thought that was Adam Jones in the thumbnail.
"Have you ever had a piece of equipment go down on you?" hehehe

Always loved Testament. Dragonlord is a kick ass side band of Eric’s
Is it just me, or the guitar tone of the intro music sounded like it's coming from a boss metalzone!
In real, it's a Marshall JVM sound

Regarding Rickenbacker, this interviewer has no idea that doom metal exists.
