Tim Commerford is currently pulling double duty by touring with his new project Wakrat, which opens for his other project, Prophets of Rage. In spite of doing two soundchecks and two shows per night, Commerford was kind enough to meet with PG’s John Bohlinger to give us a look at his mighty rig.

Tim Commerford has played a lot of different basses over the years, but recently switched back to the Ernie Ball Music Man StingRay. Commerford travels with a bevy of stock StingRays that are strung up with Ernie Ball Slinky strings (.50–.105). For Wakrat, all the basses live in a pair of tunings: C#–G#–C#–F# or D#–G#–C#–F.

For Commerford’s clean tone, he uses a 1978 Ampeg Classic SVT running into an Ampeg PR-810H cabinet.

  • I love how he's "just a dude"… he basically has 2 basses, he gets confused about his own tuner and he uses 50 year old amps that he buys of Craigs List… I know he's a mayor geek when it comes to the sound and all… but his attitude is just so honest and pragmatic.

  • I used to love Rage and liked Audioslave when I was younger. I don't really listen to either anymore but Commerford is still one of my favourite bassists. Learnt many of his lines. Like his style.

  • Tim Commeford…gets his SVT bass rigs in Craigslist…

Anyone else's mind blown to discover he's a regular human who doesn't have a personal assistant who buys a brand new customised SVT via the VIP agent at Ampeg? ????

  • Three decades later: I still remember the first time I heard the bass intro on Bombtrack.

  • Selected this video to hear what Tom sounds like. I have listened to his music for going on 30 years and never heard his actual voice (his music voice has, ironically made my MTB times faster) So cool! I had to add, his enthusiasm is rare, and everyone in the world could benefit from this kind of enthusiasm. Be that way, or find people like that.

  • Can't tell what the song is in the beginning for first 40 sec or so or they are just doing checks but sounds great.
If anyone knows if its a song let me know the name. Cheers.

  • Goddamn. I wasn't expecting his other project to sound like braindead, meth addicted, tent living, actual fascist calling anyone that disagrees a fascist for not being an actual fascist…

  • Interesting to hear about feedback as politics and teaching the audience each night about it. I’d like to hear more about that. I think I’ll explore it for my sound.

  • Judging by TC's comments concerning war/feedback I doubt he's awake to the ruling clan and their methodology for executing NWO (or as they refer to it, "Tikkun Olam" (dominate, or rule the world) (the literal translation is not it's true meaning, because the ruling clan is all about deception). This leads to one of their mottoes, "By Deception We Make War" another quote from a prominent ruling clan individual further emphasizes the fact they arrange/orchestrate/contrive/perpetuate conflicts, "If my sons did not want war, there would be none." -Gutle Schnapper Rothschild.

  • Heavy topic that translated to music hardware. That's insane. This is the next level of sound processing. 1st, the tape modeller. 2nd, is now. 3rd, feedback processing. Awesome. ✊????

  • Really enjoyed this interview. I never really met a music man guitar I could gel with but this makes me want to try again.
