Rig Rundown – Toto’s Steve Lukather
Article & photos: http://bit.ly/SteveLukatherRR
Premier Guitar’s John Bohlinger hung with Steve Lukather and his tech, Jon Gosnell, shortly before Toto’s show at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium. While Gosnell covered the nuts and bolts of the pedalboard and amp, Lukather showed what his signature Music Man guitars are capable of.
Although Lukather has been closely associated with a lot of great guitars during his career, he currently sticks nearly exclusively with his signature models. His No. 1 is an Ernie Ball Music Man LIII Ball Family Reserve loaded with his signature DiMarzio Transition pickups and a +15 dB boost.
His No. 2 is “Sammy,” which is basically the same model but with a custom, one-off finish featuring images of Sammy Davis Jr and Sterling Ball.

Weird interview but interesting.
How is this 7 years ago? Just before PG went woke.
17:37 min. exactly that happened during the Luxembourg show in 2022 I‘ve been to????. Lukes tech did an amazing fast change during I‘ll be over you and Luke was back on the PA 2 short before the 2nd solo! ❤

he dont what pickups hes got? Oh its a secret weapon ha ,And you cant have that so so wonderful every day made in china sound yeah ,yeah ,,rite,
VERY similar Kahler to the one the late genius Steve 'The Riffmaster' Clark used on his Gibson's during the Hysteria Tour. Steve had arguably one of THE most beautiful guitars, a white/creme LP Custom, triple pick ups and Kahler strapped SO low, while he also had a bright red Firebird triple pick up with Kahler, epic guitars, his rig was stunning – the only player to use the LP X1. Geez he really had it all.
Steve was my first guitar teacher and he was brilliant at that time which was in 1979 before Toto. I had about four to five lessons with him before he left with Toto but he taught me alot in those lessons, but one thing that i'll never forget he told me is "if you want to suceed now being a guitar player is learn how to sing. If you can play guitar and sing as well your chances are likely you'll get the gig." To this day I live by his saying so I sing and play guitar as well. What a great musician.
UFO
Steve looks really bad in died black hair and skinny jeans. Go Steve !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Awww, he is nervous bless him. He clearly is a bit shy of praise and acts a bit funny to compensate. Seems like a top guy.
God Luke!
No talk! Only play.
I saw Toto last night. Steve was just absolutely amazing. It's like he can't play anything that doesn't sound just utterly amazing.
ADHD in full force. Love this guy
Growing up in the 80s I would hear some Top 40 songs with some of the most amazing guitar solos. I would eventually find out that almost all of them were Steve Lukather. The final guitar solo for "Dirty Laundry" and "Running With the Night" come to mind.
The man is in his 70's and not a single gray hair on his head, must have incredible genes!
"Uhhhh….ummm…Uh"
Calling him, Totos Steve Lukather, is like saying Illinois Abraham Lincoln. It's a true statement, but doesn't begin to cover it. ✌️
So much technical nerdiness, whatever happened to just plug and play ? Remember guys like Roy Buchanan?
Guitar legend!
Get that coffee cup off the Bogner Head! ????
the way the tech guy was smashing the conga's tho like he wanted to beat it to a pulp ???? just my first time seeing it being checked ✌️
This guy is a riot. He would be fun to just hang with.
Good old Zakk, always bustin' balls!
❤
Steve is a real master. Hilarious too.
Too much man hair dye in one video
Luke is the best there is. He’s played on more radio songs than you know. Played guitar on many famous recordings by famous guitar players and had to sign nda’s. It’s Like you’re hearing, not the famous shredder.
So they gave us a close up of the amp settings but on the return amp when discussing the settings for Steve's amp (main amp on the right – but they show the one on the left which is the efx return and the EQ settings don't matter because the eq is bypassed on the efx return)?
I love Lukather. I love that he can't stop noodling too. He's the best
Jon Gosnell ????????????
Who started using Musicman first? Lukather or Petrucci? Just curious.
Interesting that he only uses one send from one amp and returns it into two amps! Can anyone elaborate is this an unusual way to do it? I was researching how to use two amp's send and return together with a set of pedals, is this how you normally do it?
6:00 Valley Arts, so Warmoth

Transition. Hilarious. One of the best electric players of all time.
Herding cats
This is the musical equivalent of a tour of the Rolls-Royce factory 🙂
great comment
Luke is a great guy, saying silly stuff always like try to hide his super smart brain ???????????? very modest guy
Then again toto is that what it is?
Wow!!! Talk about: look at me! I can wank while being interviewed ????????
