Rock Guitar Scales modes for beginners, made easy. This is part 2 in the series, How to play guitar scales and modes made easy. Learn the guitar modes! Here we demonstrate position 2 of the G major scale (Ionian) mode. This gives you more fret board real estate to play in when combined with position 1 of G Major. This also leads us into playing different guitar modes. This lesson focuses on G Ionian and it’s relationship to the Dorian mode.
The order of the modes: Ionian;Dorian;Phrygian;Lydian;Mixolydian;Aolian;Locrian

  • Sorry may be you answered this but I didn't catch it. If position 2 of G Ionian is also position 1 A Dorian. What position of A Dorian is position 1 of G Ionian? Thanks Steve. Really enjoyed the lesson by the way you presented really well. Well done.

  • Am I the only idiot who realized he said, 7, 8, 10 then when he played it again, he said 7, 8, 9. It really threw me off. Anyway… Thanx for the lessons!!

  • are you serious? he spends a whole 20 minutes on a video saying that G ionian is the same as A dorian and every time he says a sentence he plays his guitar for fuck knows how long and pokes his head up again and says the same sentence he did before, i was looking for a good 20 minutes of information and i learnt 1 thing omg xD

  • So, does this mean that every note has each of these modes? For example, you talked about G Ionian and A Dorian. Do A B C D E F G all have Ionian, Dorian, and all the other modes? And those mode names "Ionian" "Dorian" are the patterns?
