Roland JC-120: The classic and best solid state guitar sound!

The Roland JC-120: the choice of anyone wanting clean and chorused guitar sounds, these amps have been made continuously since 1975 – that’s a longer production run than the Mini or Morris Minor. Every venue in Japan has one – I toured there a lot and they were always consistent and reliable..

The chorus really does have to be heard in situ to be believed – the only chorus sound that relies on acoustic manipulation of the speakers. Magic. Listen to any of the Police stuff and you’ll hear it!

The vibrato is pretty “out there” – imagine trying it out in the 70s!

  • Oh boy! That beautiful and beautifully executed intro was a PERFECT example to begin with for really showing the uniquely inspiring qualities of this Marvelous device sent down from Heaven, at least I think so. It's one of the BEST Amps EVER devised, 'clean' or not with pedals added. Just a rare gem.

  • Such a great demo of this amp, thank you. I have a JC22 (I just play at home) and it makes a wonderful sound, though tempted to go larger and get the vibrato and distortion as well as the benefit of larger speakers!

  • I just bought a JC120 new – do you notice that when you engage the Vibrato or Chorus that one of the speakers becomes slightly louder than the other? And one of the speakers becomes a bit more hissy? Just wanted to know if this was normal or not

  • Geweldige uitleg!!!! Erg belangrijk om te weten wat een amp clean doet. Meestal wordt een review volgestopt met razendsnelle trashfreaks met loads of distortionsounds. Ik ben erg geholpen met deze review! Geweldig!!!

  • I had a JC 120 back in the 90s. It is truly my favorite amp. Its very difficult to record or duplicate the chorus effect. Its mind blowing!

  • I use this jc120 with an ibanez pm200/ a gibson johnny a custom for jazz gigs, without any pedals. There is no way for better clean sounds. This amp is an icon. Thanks for your brillant demo, well made.✌

  • I just bought a late 90's Peavey Transchorus 210. It's a true stereo chorus amp like this at 50w/channel, 100 watts total. The previous teal stripe Studio Chorus edition from early 90's was 35w x2 and it's larger sibling the Stereo Chorus 212 had 65w/channel. Best of all, they both cost less than half of what the Rolands go for and many say are equally as good. I picked my 210 up for $160 US. The 212's however can still go for up to $300 depending on condition. But considering the used Rolands sell for over $600, it's still a bargain.

  • Great video. Actually, the old Peavey Classic have great TUBE driven chorus ad phasers, some of the best ever in the world, plus it's got a preamp in to run a tube preamp. Good cleans, but maybe not as good as the Roland. Those Paveys are bargains used , snap em up!
