SE Custom 24 Semi-Hollow Piezo | Demo | PRS Guitars

Electric and Acoustic Tones

The PRS SE Custom 24 Semi-Hollow Piezo is a highly sophisticated and incredibly versatile instrument. The Custom 24 is the original design first introduced by PRS in 1985 as a solidbody guitar with maple top, mahogany back, dual humbuckers, and the patented PRS tremolo. This semi-hollow version adds natural resonance and a vibrant, organic tone.

The humbuckers in this model are PRS 85/15 “S” pickups, which can be tapped via the push/pull tone control for more sounds. The addition of the LR Baggs/PRS Piezo system furthers the instrument’s versatility by offering electric and acoustic tones in one guitar. The PRS SE Custom 24 Semi-Hollow Piezo is designed with two discrete volume controls (magnetics and piezo) and output jacks (mix/piezo and magnetics). Players can plug into the “Mix/Piezo” jack and use the individual volume controls to blend the 85/15 “S” pickups with the piezo’s acoustic tones. Alternatively, players can plug into the jacks separately, so the guitar can run magnetic pickups into an amp and run the piezo through an acoustic amp or DI into the soundboard. When using the magnetic output jack in isolation, the piezo battery is bypassed completely, acting as a failsafe (in this scenario, the magnetic pickups still work even if the piezo battery has run out of juice).

Additional details include a matching headstock veneer, headstock and fretboard binding, and lampshade knobs. With nearly infinite tones and roadworthy reliability, the PRS SE Custom 24 Semi-Hollow Piezo is a modern classic that looks and feels as good as it sounds.

  • I could just LOOK at that guitar all day. The tones are reason enough to get one, but it’s a stunningly beautiful guitar to boot.

  • ❤️Ok! Convinced Sweetwater sent it to me…got it thurs 10/17/24 2:20 pm ish…. Played it at my Hawaiian lūʻau Gig…. Tottaly different from any other guitar Iʻve used…. Question…. I tuned down to a dropped D…. It was good. But dropping the low E to a lower C….. all the rest of the 5 strings went sharp…. ????
Is there a way to fix this? Such as adding some type of stiffini g rods to this neck?
I also find the high 25-24 frets soo low… there is barely any pick up… sound…. Perhaps uneven frets?
Will dbl ck high frets at tonitesʻ gig… Iʻve not had time to really run thru this baby….
    Mahalo,

  • This one does it way wrong: piezo MUST always be a dedicated output jack, mag be a dedicated output jack, each completely separate from each other – no blending! Also, they are "neck" and "bridge", NOT "bass" and "treble"; labeling the pickups in that ridiculous fashion is akin to the difference between "fahrenheit" and "celsius"!

  • Can you guys take away that SE logo away just like other brands? People can differentiate the lineups by simply looking at the guitars. The SE logo is the only draw backs of PRS SE guitars. Or just make the Paul Read Smith logo small and eliminate the use of SE. These are Perfect Mid level instruments comes with a cheap looking logo.

  • Why NO locking tuners?? We would ALL pay extra for that. Love the guitar though. If I get one it gets locking tuners and a PLEK job.

  • Great model form PRS

But why is that there is not a Core model of this one
PRS CE24 semi-hallow body is what is missing!

  • I really hate the side of the neck in white on many SE models[ex. quilt, holcomb] . The only reason why I don't buy them, Its doesn't look nice in my eyes. Why don't you guys make it in dark color like the se custom.

  • Why does every cool new SE model that deviates from the typical CU, McCarty or signature model have to be on the 24 fret layout? The S2 line has started to go that way too. I've seen three or four SE models come out over the last few years that I would have snagged in minute if they had been 22s. This one is the most frustrating because if it were a 22, it would fit what I'm currently looking for perfectly. I had a CE22 years ago, which with the benefit of hindsight I see that besides the McCarty, it was hands down my favorite PRS. Over the years I've had a couple core CU24s that I got through trades that were offered to me. The first was where I realized I didn't like 24s and the second I flipped. I had a CU22 and an original 25" McCarty, and more SEs than I can remember. I like the CU22s, but I already have a McCarty 594 and an ES335 that fill the same role as a 22 would. The CEs bolt-on neck gives it that snap that you don't get with set necks, and the maple adds enough presence that gives it a unique sound compared to Custom. I've always found the CE line gets closest to the original goal of a guitar to fill the space between Gibson and Fender.
The semi hollow body is the tipping point that makes this perfect. The inherit bigger midrange that semihollows produce married up with the CE's tone and the fact that I'm looking for a piezo for the first time in 30 years, and there's really nothing I can think of that would have better suit what I need. Alas…????‍????

*Props for not giving a sht and playing Stairway anyway. ????

  • This will be my first PRS guitar! I'm a music producer professionally so not a guitarist but I'm excited to add a guitar with great variety of colors to my toolkit.

  • By now I own more SEs than I know what to do with, I just come here to fawn at Bryan Ewald's groovetastic playing

  • Since the SE vsns of the CE24 debuted last year, I've been hoping PRS would do an SE vsn of the CE24 semi hollow. Very disappointed that they did this instead. Only because I believe the $1600 is too much and that price would be lower if they did a Bolto-on design and spared the unnecessary and unwanted piezo electronics.

  • I thought about buying it until I saw it was $1,600. It's definitely cool but without locking tuners or the American pickups at that price point I'll just buy another CE 24 used or a Gen 2 S2 with American pickups. The import pickups are not bad. But they do not hit like the American pickups. And at that price point it needs American pickups

  • I think PRS should make a proper take on the ES-335 type guitar. Similar size, not just a hollowed out custom 24s. Similar to what Ibanez is doing with their semi-hollows. Let’s do it Paul!

  • The intro song could be on a Steven Wilson record. It's uncanny!

  • $2200 Canadian for an SE… I never thought I'd see the day, but then again a 10-top Tremonti is currently close to $7K… My Tremonti baritone prototype was only $6k.
