  • So I don't have an Energizer battery handy ( which I will rectify soon), but after watching this video I had similar success changing out a Rayovac battery from my Taylor 814CE , for Walgreens Alkaline battery. Clearly fit differently and the buzz is 95% gone. Will try again once I get an Energizer. Thanks!

  • Nope, this is incorrect. I have the same problem with my 9v duracell being too snug in the compartment. After watching this video I rushed out to get an energizer. they are exactly the same size and the energizer also fits too snug in the compartment. Guitar still works, but it is a bit of a concern when i have to push the battery in with a bit of force. But there is def no difference in battery sizes. Perhaps ALL batteries are being made a little chunkier now, as I used to have no problem slipping the battery in.

  • THANK YOU!!!! Man you just saved me a whole lot of stress. My battery died in the middle of a gig and luckily someone at the venue had an Amazon branded battery…which worked for about a minute. And I'm on stage trying to get it out of the holder and that thing was stuck. The worst part is I had another gig that night on a summer cruise and that same thing kept happening. Now I know why.

  • My older 414 with the es1 system is acting strange. Firstly the bass pot would cause the entire instrument to shut off when turned past noon. I fixed that but I have some strange noises as well. Scratching, hissing, popping. going to try this to see. I use Amazon basics 9v batteries which are tight like the Duracell.

  • Sounds like a lawsuit in the making. 9V batteries power many important things like smoke detectors. There shoud be an exacting industry measurement.

  • Had a similar issue with a wireless mic years ago. May be different now, but the energizers were slightly longer than the Duracells.

  • Dude your video came at the perfect time. Scored a Beautiful Taylor 2018 414CE-Custom in pristine shape for $1400 marked down form $2000 because the pickup was cutting in and out.. I purchased it hoping this was the issue and behold it was!! I replaced the Duracell with an Energizer and now she plays perfectly!

Funny thing is the Duracell seemed to fit perfect into the holder and the new energizer has a lot of vertical play.. but the energizer works perfectly and the Duracell was not working right….

Thank you so much. I was hopeful but skeptical but this video is absolute truth!

  • just purchased a used Taylor 210ce worked great. spent 3 days setting up my boss 300 looper into two different amps and a PA. finally got the sound right. went in to play and humming blasting through everything. checked cords and nothing. plugged in my strat… Aha! no hum. checked the battery on my Taylor. had to see the trick to taking the bad,… yes, Duracell out. watched your video and TaDa! problem solved. Thanks brother. Duracell's Suck and I'm sure they swell after time also. what a Bi&^h to get out.

  • I no longer use Duracell batteries. I've had several instances of corrosion with them. I use rechargeable 9 volts in my guitars. I carry an energizer as a backup. Other than rechargeable, I only use energizer batteries.

  • You rock! In the documentation Taylor provides with the guitar, they recommend Duracell. I put in a Duracell and it barely fits in the battery compartment. When I played it plugged in, it started cutting out intermittently. I brought it to a music store and they said I might need to go to a Taylor specialist because the pickup system is so unique. I decided to look online first and found this video – I changed to an Energizer and it fits in the guitar much better and the guitar works perfectly. You probably saved me a lot of money and hassle.

  • Amazing considering I took a Duracell out and replaced it with a new one and had all of these issues. Switched to an Energizer and all is well. I hadn't plugged this guitar in for a couple of years and thought it was going to be a bigger issue than this. Thanks!

  • Taylor, electronics frequently fail a 310 CE, which used the AA batteries and had two warranty repairs done to replace the pick ups which actually dry up so now I’m in the process of trying to rip out all the Taylor electronics and put an LR Baggs in.

  • Hope do notice me, what is the best method on how to fix might be a battery leak on the battery box but i'd checked the battery… Battery is not rusted but the springs are; what todo?

  • I’ve had my Taylor 214 for about three years and I love the sound but the electronics have never worked properly until I tried your suggestion. The electronics now work perfectly. I honestly can’t believe the fix with something that simple. I feel like I got a brand new guitar. Thank you so much!

  • My 2023 224ce pse came with a Duracell, seems to function properly. Good information to keep in mind if it starts acting up.

  • I have a Taylor 616 and the electronics recently went silent. I went ahead and tried an Energizer battery and I’m pleased to say it actually worked. Thank you!

  • I have a brand new Taylor 200CE. After 2 months of playing the pickup failed. I did some Google searching and found your video. I check the battery compartment and it has a Duracell from the factory. It fits loosely though. I put it back in and it works again, but I guess I'll buy an Energizer.

  • I bought an Eveready (it's a little smaller than an Energizer) it won't turn the guitar on. My guess is Eveready won't work on guitars. Am I correct?

  • Should also mention that there is a black phase switch on the board by the light indicator, if it is stuck in mid travel it will kill the output. just toggle it.

  • Hello, I changed the battery (Energizer) but it still crackles when I plug in to my amp. It is intermittent. What should I do next to try and fix this please? I have a Taylor 110ce which has the same connector as your guitar. Any help much appreciated. Thanks.

  • Happened to my Korean made Crafter as well but a little different. The battery case has a small crack at the corner next to one of the battery terminals. That caused poor contact at the terminals.
I thought the preamp went kaputz so I bought a soundhole pickup and used that. It took me years to accidentally find out that the battery was not seating well. With a few light pressing at the top of the battery case with my fingers it worked.
Then I found that little crack after thourough examination of the battery case and yes I think the crack was caused by battery that was too thick.
You will notice that the thicker battery is difficult to insert into the case especially the one on my Crafter is not square all round. There is one side that has a slope. So, not every battery will fit in properly. If the wrong battery is fitted, when you insert the battery case onto the guitar it may pop up a little by itself and you may not detect it.
You can check by pushing it down with your fingers and you would notice that the thing can bounce down and up a little as you push and release the finger pressure.
With the right battery there is no more problem although the original battery case with small crack still in use.

  • I've been struggling with this issue with my Taylor! I even had it looked at and was told me the connectors just needed cleaned and that it was all good now. But I've continued to have the problem, so I'm definitely going to pick up some Energizer batteries now!

  • What i found with my GS mini is that the positive and negative markings on the compartment were round the wrong way.

  • Ridiculous! This was it for me. My sound was scratchy and cutting in and out and I thought it was my cable or my jack. Nope, battery. THANK YOU!!!

  • The ES system isn't good. Of you don't believe me, blind listen to and fishman or lr baggs system, then listen to the es.

  • Older GS-Mini R with the ES-T. Was literally ready to trade it in. Thought something was broken with it. Very thin sound the last few times I plugged it in. Pulled out a new Duracell and put in a new Energizer. Plugged into my PA for the last 20 mins. It worked! Thank you so much for posting!

  • I was having trouble getting most batteries to fit inside my 10 year old Taylor GS Mini. I talked to Taylor and they sent me a slightly larger 9 volt battery casing. So that might be something to think about as well. It certainly helped me. Thanks for the video!
