My favorites based on iPhone speaker
G&L then Tele on Neck
G&L then PRS Middle
Tele then Les Paul on bridge
Got each of those wrong. Goes to show the difference is more visual than audible
I think the G&L was the worse one overall, not so much in a mix but all three others beat it. It actually fooled me once thinking it might be the tele because of the brightness. It was the odd ball of the bunch with its sound being less equal to the others.
ya… get the guitar you feel most comfortable with and the looks you enjoy. Want your mind to be blown: The Stairway to Heaven solo was played on a tele… not a les paul.
You bring everyone to the "clear water"! Thanks!
Interesting experiment, but it had some flaws.
I just listened on a crappy mobile device built-in speaker, not headphones. I wasn't really trying to identify the exact guitars, just the Fender-scale ones vs the shorter-scale ones. And I was able to do that, 100%, just by listening for the slightly brighter, thinner, and more airy tone that I associate with the longer scale, vs the thicker and buzzier tone of shorter scales. I.e., interesting comparison, but too many variables to be scientific, IMHO. Would be interesting to compare, say, Teles or Strats with HH and splits vs SSS. I'm coming to place more importance on scale length than I ever used to (beyond just the ergonomics or "feel").
P Rails sound great
My big takeaway here is definitely that a true single coil on the neck position for me is worth it but that I don't really hear the difference much in the bridge. Guess my next guitar is gonna be an HSS
really nice comparison, i think some of the audio demos are clipping.
Prs sounded nice
I used the blind test to find out which elements I preferred. Chose the epi every time, guess I know what to look for in a guitar :-). Thank you for this video!
I listened and consistently got the less Paul as my favorite tone. It sounds sweeter to me.
This G&L has something special in its tone, I liked it the most. Les Paul the least.
Thanks for this video. I've been trying to decide if I want an HSS or HH with coil splits. In each of the blind tests, I preferred the sound of the PRS HH with coil splits.
I Ă lways pick 2, and the tele is always there! Epi is 2nd!!
Tele is the best
On the first two tests I actually identified all four guitars correctly. There is something about that single coil tone that is super identifiable. I describe it as a tubby sound. I absolutely love it. I’m a huge fan of les Paul’s and I own a les Paul with split coils. They do an admirable job but unfortunately this video just confirmed what I already suspected. They don’t quite match that sweet sweet tubbyness. (Not to be confused with tubiness, as in a amp tube) “Sigh” I guess I’ll buy a tele and a strat. My wallet gently weeps.
That G&L just sounds like a LP
I recognised the 2 real single coils because the base notes didn't sound like a piezo pickup – at least that is the best way I can describe it. Wasn't impressed even by the ESP. But thanks for the vid, very useful and the comment section might lead to something with Fralin Unbucker pickups…
The G&L blew me away, sounds killer on all tracks
