yo lo aprendi a tocar de oido
Seen Sublime several times, back in the Nowell days and more recently with Rome, and they absolutely do not play this way. When they play Reggae off-beats, they use a down stroke. This goes for all Reggae and usually for ska. Playing the off-beat using an upstroke has the same timing but an entirely different tone. They wouldn't be able to successfully do the double-stroke off-beats or skank ghost-strokes using upstroke first. Calypso uses upstrokes for off-beats, not reggae or ska.
Best vid I've seen tonight thanks..
Items of note….
*Says "not that I'm an expert or anything"….proceeds to be fuckin expert
*Only time you smile properly is when you say the word "punk" and I love you for that
*Are you the Hamburgler but have lost some weight?
*…..
This is such a throwback to some good old days
Thank you very much, Dave. Love your lessons, you are too cool. God bless you
used to watch this guy all the time back in college when YouTube was in its infancy – so positive!
waaaaaaaaaaaay too much spring for ska
Never once of me skimming through this did I see you play anything. Fail! Not the video for me…
U talk so much just teach
thanks so much dude! ive been playing for years but have always been caught in a minor rut but this seemed to clarify a lot for me-im trying to get my band back together after 10 years and this just helped me step up my game.
You look exactly like Michael McDonald from Mad TV, you sound like him too. And nice lesson????????
I prefer to switch the down and the upstroke, downs are more aggressive and you get more attack
Ska doesn't use power chords, barre chords. They use tenor jazz style on the bottom four. Even you're so called sublime style is incorrect. Try looking in a book. That way you don't have to play "parts" of the chords. You're playing reggae and nothing but
When i do a bar chord i accidentaly mute the 3 string with my 3 and 4 finger any advice?
Thank You! Helped me with a new project 🙂
The problem I have is that I never sound crisp enough. It's kind of muddy and my muted strokes are barely audible
hey been playing sublime for almost a year now and i just have a general question do u know if sublime ( brad nowell) uses standard 440 or does he do the half step that almost every one uses ?? bc i cant help but hear a diffrent octave when im playing with them i try to move the cord or what ever somewhere diffrent but i know like bad fish for example i know that the exact right way is just sounds a little off if you can answer this i would really sincearly love you for it
It's pronounced "Tamber"
Bro ur a great teacher! Great lesson, I'm practicing Ska rhythm and your explanation of the technique is clear as day bro, again thanks for the lesson!!
Reggae is on down strokes, if yu listen to real Reggae yu can tell this sounds all jacked up.Â
after a short period of playing my thumb hurts a bit…is something that i do wrong? p.s sorry for my english 🙂
skip the history lesson, 2 minutes you have't played a note.
hiÂ
hw are u?
I winced a little when he said "timbre".
Whoa. Steve Blake can play guitar?
the best advice I could give you is to learn Jazz, Blues, R&B, and Swing music, check out Skatalites the godfathers of the ska craze movement of the early 50's, Tommy McCook is also a great person to check out, Don Drummond too, hope that helps
