I’m shocked how good these amps sound without pedals, especially the VOX. I would say all things considered (price, weight, portability and flexibility) the Blues Jr. wins. Cool video, thanks for posting.
The orange and marshall id probably buy the orange cuz there's so many tone options on dial thanks!
Marshall > Vox > Orange > Fender.

best test channel so far
I have the Marshall. It’s already delicious but if you add a 1×12 cab to it with either a greenback or a creamback holy balls is it ever amazing. She’s also real easy on the eyes. Great video!
1. Marshall, 2. Vox, 3. Orange, 4. Fender
VOX and Orange take it, but I'm a VOX lover for clarity…
Fender should just stop already with the Amps.
Excellent comparison! My eyes likes the Vox, but my ears ended up preferring the Orange Rocker.
Princeton for the win every time when it comes to small amps
Excelente comparativaa
Orange and Vox are best, and I would take the orange and get a treble booster or EQ to get that top end of the vox. A good Mullard OC44 germanium treble booster with the Orange would get you that thing the Vox has with much more versatility IMO.
VOX
The Orange and the Marshall would sound so good together in stereo.
Wow – awesome shootout!
l think they all sounded remarkably similar, with the Fender being the least impressive.
I like em all, but Vox and Orange all day long for me.
Orange all the way
Orage
1:55 Is it just me or was that Fender modern mid push sound pretty awesome? It's not nearly as loud as the other amps, but that gain is so "clear." Don't buy it for metal or high gain, but for classic rock, that's pretty great.
What a well-put-together video. This is awesome. And I think this goes to show that you buy the amp that best suits your type of music … Orange/Marshall for hard rock/metal; Vox for classic rock and Fender for blues/country/blues rock.
Very good video, thanks
I’m an Orange player, and the only other amp that caught my attention was the Vox. Great sounding amp.
This is the best something or other.
I own a Marshall Origin 20 and it's a great amp – takes pedals so good. My only qualm is that there's not so much bass, but if you get the head and a 12 inch speaker that would probably take care of that. I played the orange today- don't know what to think about it… It's a rocker- definitely more of an amp that rides you rather than you being able to harness it. Fender is no good for me plus I think I remember seeing that when it's pushed hard, it can get flubby. My only experience with VOX is the VT40+ and it's a great little amp.
To be practice..
Marshall Origin 20= Mini Plexi
Fender Blues Jr= Mini Tweed
Orange Rocker= Mini Rockerverb
Vox Ac15= AC all we know
Orange for dirty in this video. However, if you get the masters way up, the distorted character changes in a big way for the better on all. I use an attenuator and always run the volume or master at least half way up. Sounds glorious.
They all can sound really good. Yet for me the Fender for cleans and the Orange for everything else.
Fender has a big history
I loooove the "sizzle" of the orange amp. I wonder how it would work with weird pedals and sounds. I notice how everyone's ragging on the fender. It does sound dull and blanketed but i could see where it could work if it's pushed like crazy.
Maybe the best comparison video I have ever watched. Well done!
Almost shocked at how good the cleans on the Orange were. They have the reputation of a balls out rock machine but the cleans were sweet too.
Love this video, nice job
Marshall
orange all the way
Fender Blues Jr: 0:54 – 1:24 –3:20
Orange: 1:14 – 3:26
I personally have the blues jr4 with a greenack (limited edition) and it sounds great with cleaner drive pedals stacked with delays and reverb. It doesn’t sound the best with gain pedals (5150OD for example) and delay but it works… When delays and gain are used it’s best to have an effects loop. Which the blues jr lacks… I didn’t realize the importance of the effects loop until now. I’m going to be getting the Origin soon. I need a good amp sound for drop D tuning and E flat standard. Play a lot of TOOL, EVH, Alice In Chains, RATM, 90s alternative, Pink Floyd. I like try to play bluesy as well. The fender lacks the ability to power scale which is a major loss too. The Origin is the clear winner in hindsight.
From personal experience, one the best ways I have found to get a really good sound out of a small practice amp is to run it into a 1X12 or 2X10 speaker cabinet. Most manufacturers didn't reinvent the wheel with these small amps. They just revised their standard, established amp circuits to include the bare minimum features. The basic circuit isn't that far from their higher priced offerings, just with less features and at a lower watt output. Really, hook them up to a bigger cab and see their sound open up. I've taken some of these same amps I got for like $15 at a thrift and converted them into micro cabs to specifically run into external speaker cabs. Making a speaker cab is not hard at all, if you can't afford a cheapie like Harley Benton sells.
One more note. IMHO the Vox Pathfinder 15R is so much better than the Pathfinder 10 it's worth combing the for-sale rags and sites looking for a used one. Just saying.
I just want to say how much I appreciate your methodology. I'm in the market for a new amp, and this video was enlightening.
They're all terrific amps. All very different, and that's where personal preference comes in. Personally, I'd say, if you primarily play Metal: Orange, Hard Rock: Marshall & Vox, Jazz & Blues: Fender & Vox. The Orange can do everything imo. It's hard to get anything to sound like a Vox, but it's hard to get a Vox to sound like it's not a Vox. Marshall plexi style amps won't get a naturally saturated distortion, as easily as an Orange. Marshall's also have a less smooth "punchy" character when driven. The tubes in the Blues Jr. are killer, and will get you that Texas Blues breakup, but you'll even need a TS for the boost. If you use a lot of pedals, the clean platform Fender's provide is perfect.
Orange Rocker 15 had the best distortion.
Haha, the EQ on the Marshall did next to nothing! Ok, the "presence" did. Still I think it sounds pretty good at any of those settings. …Why the Fender is so popular is totally beyond me. Bad cleans, bad crunch, bad gain. It's just a blanket.
They should re-name the Blues Jr into "The Blanket".
How about MESA BOOGIE VS PEAVEY.
VOX for me
