  • Tube amps take od's as clean boost so much better as a boost. That said this defintely isnt the best ss amp Ive heard. Not bad but there is better out there by far.

  • Man, some people shitting on solid state here. Some people prefer it. Besides, most of you are hitting the front end of your tubes with jfet/op-amp circuits.

  • Nice job the comparison you did was very helpful in deciding which amp was most useful for application of tones on both 6 or 7 string axe!

  • I have an ISP Theta preamp and you can overdrive and then cascade the preamp into the gain channel which makes it sound super fat like the Dark Terror. That’s the only way to achieve that sound without tubes that I’ve found.

  • Really good comparison, Dark Terror sounds a lot better to me. They are really good for a budget amp, pretty hard to beat tbh.

  • The Dark Terror takes it's tonal characteristics from the Th30. Oranges most lowend punch amp with the most and gain.
Where the Gain Baby is based on the Rockerverb, a more mid focused Rock machine.

"Apples vs Oranges" no pun intended ????

  • Hear me out – get a Pedal Baby 100, and get a buffered splitter, put it in the FX loop of the Dark Terror, then run one side of the splitter back to the FX Return, and the extra output into the Pedal Baby. Park the Dark Terror onto a 1×12 or vertical 2×12, maybe even an open back cab, and then run the Pedal Baby into a closed back 4×12. You now have an asymmetric dry/wet rig, and the high and low controls on the pedal baby give you more tone sculpting abilities. From the way Orange designs their clean channels on their solid state amps, you can also likely do this with the Gain Baby's clean channel, as well as the clean channel of a Tour Baby, Super Crush, or even an O Sound 40. Likewise, the OR-15, Rocker 15.

You could also swap that around, and use the Gain Baby's FX loop with a splitter or ABY to also feed the Pedal Baby. A stereo cab that can handle at least 100 Watts per side and a small rack (all the "Baby" line of amps from Orange are 1U rack mount compatible – the screw holes are there, and the same "sold separately" kit for the Pedal Baby will probably fit the newer amps) will do ya. Just put all the post FX after the splitter, and boom. If you skip the splitter, and rock an ABY with a distortion or preamp pedal in front of the Pedal Baby instead…

Another crazy thought, doing the kind of setup I just described with a Rocker 32 2×10 stereo combo…
Rocker 32 will actually get you dry/wet/dry, though, and if you do things right with that stereo FX loop, and an ABY out front, you could actually use a separate preamp into the power amp for one side, leading to more of a dry/wet/alt, or dry1/wet1/dry2, if you will. You could also get TWO Pedal Baby amps, and REALLY go crazy.

    Regardless, I love Orange amps.

  • It’s a great amplifier comparison mate, but I think I just might have to get them both! My fiancé would say otherwise but I do like the sounds of both amplifier’s. Thanks for another great review mate and until next time…. Stay safe, Stay metal, and don’t forget to Riff.?!????????????????????????????

  • Is not the same, is it!? Tube amp is a tube amp, the ONLY thing that is like a tube amp is a amp missing the tubes, but that is just a question of buying them.

  • The 15w terror series is unfortunately nowhere near loud enough for a band context if you are playing fairly loud or at a venue where your amp isn’t mic’d up, the baby series is plenty loud enough

  • You make that Dark Terror sound absolutely awesome. I do wonder which would "win" live. I'm betting the extra bite and volume edge of the 100 watt Gain Baby would make it the champ. Lucky for me, I only play alone at home and could therefore rock more cheaply. Whoo!
