It’s close but is not dirty enough. Especially when you palm mute or hit those bigger chords. It needs more chorus and distortion in my opinion.
hey, if you have a Spider V 20 amp, could you tell me how to tone it to sound like Deftones? Specifically that Around The Fur type tone?
I think i preferred every other speaker over the V30 (no surprises, i don’t like real V30s either), but i can’t complain about the results

Still to this day one of the best amps around IMHO

I know that he used ADA MP1. But I know some of his former guitar techs and they've reported to me that stephen used the rocktron pres into 9200 and were blown away! There was a bunch of chorus in those patches, too.

Hey Jon. Do you have Amplitube? It has a plug-in version of the JMP-1 and I’d love to hear it compared against the real thing!
I believe Steph uses Marshall cabs with Celestion G12-75 speakers in.
If you listen to Adrenaline and Around The Fur in particular, you can hear the tone of those speakers more so than the V30’s.
He was documented as using the G12-75’s and 80 watt speakers on more recent tours too here –

With IR's, I realized a lot have to do with the cab ! Marshall 1960's IR's are perfect (not "muddy" like a Mesa). I so would like your opinion on Marshall 1936 2×12 cabs, I can't find IR's of it to try but I need a 2×12 to gig.

One thing people don’t seem to know is that Steph actually recorded Around the Fur with an ADA MP-1 into the 9200. He said he didn’t get the JMP-1 till the tour.

I've got a JMP-1 with a custom EL84 Power amp, and just ordered a PRS MT 15.
You can get a way better Deftones tone off of the 5150 men

Hi John, what do you think about the latest single "ohms"? I am not that enthusiast about it…prefer the previous stuff (not only around the fur/ white pony, but also koi no yokan and GORE). Interested to hear your opinion as I know you are a big fan.
Nice tone! How do you use the instrument/line level in the jmp1? How would you use (+4/-20db) if it was going to an equalizer (maybe another pedal), for instance, before the power amp?
