Band-Maid’s main composer Kanami has a classic music background and uses this influence in her compositions.
Each band members contribute to the song and each member challenges themselves so it’s not an ordinary song structure.
The more you listen the more you see and appreciate this work!

This performance is a little muted on the energy of the performance, since it was a live stream during Covid. At the time it was like a gift from heaven. The audience was the camera operators and the crew. This is a band that takes the energy from the audience and multiplies it. I have seen them live and they are amazing. Even when you can't be at the show they live stream 1-2 concerts a year, and somehow each performance seems to outdo the last one.
The woman who does the rhythm guitar and backing vocals (Miku) is the band founder and little ball of energy. She went into the Japan Open Poker Tour in 2022 and was leading the board, although pipped at the end by another player — she came second. She is not to be underestimated! Miku writes the lyrics. She selected Kanami (lead guitar) who recommended Akane (drummer) who recommended Misa (bassist). Miku also selected Saiki (lead vocals) — instead of hogging the vocalist position for herself (yes, she sacked herself because her voice is "too bright" for hard rock — but she does do some great solos, like Sayonakidori and Rock In Me). She took up guitar some time after forming the band, mentored by Kanami (lead guitar and band's composer). Miku is the spokesperson. She does standup comedy ("Omajinai Time") during gigs — and encourages the others. Miku did a great job building her dream band. She is outstanding — I think she energises the band with her eccentric brilliance. Band-Maid is five very talented people, but the starting point was Miku.
See them live. I did in 2022 and I’m waiting for them to come back to the USA.

Saw them once live, and was amazed. I really want to see them again, even if I have to travel to Japan. It's sad that due to COVID, they did not get to tour as much with that album, it had a lot of great songs.

Great reaction. You put into words quite eloquently why most of us love Band-Maid so much. If you want to increase your viewers, you may want to check out 3 other bands that have a huge reaction following like Band-Maid. The Warning (Mexico Hard Rock). Lovebites (Japan Thrash/Powe Metal). BabyMetal (Japan Loli Metal). I understand your motivation from watching your live streams, but I'm just saying. Thanks for the 2-hour stream. I'll be there.
Man, wish I could hire you to explain Band-Maid to some of my clueless friends 🙂 BTW, Miku, back up vocalist and rhythm guitarist, also does most of the lyrics. For example, the lyrics for Black Hole, which indeed are multilevel, both very cosmic and very personal.

You don't know the half of it yet mate…Acoustic concerts, hectic tracks slowed down, Miku learned guitar on the job and now has her own signature model…and now singer Saiki has been learning and debuted piano…on her own at their biggest 10th anniversay gig (as in the Hate video) sang and played slow simple arrangement of 'Choose Me'…captivating the silent huge audience. What a lady ????❤. The studio MV of 'Choose Me' is worth checking out and my favourite/most played song is 'Dice'…MV for marvellous studio arrangement ???????????????????? Miracle band…how so much talent with perfect temperament came together ????

There is an interesting story behind "Black Hole". According to Akane, Kanami asked her how fast she could drum. Akane said around 190 bpm. Then Kanami went off and wrote "Black Hole" that peaks at 220 bpm! So Akane goes and writes the drum patterns for the track. She wrote 7, for the band to choose which one. She labelled them:
1. Easy
2. Comfortable
3. Normal
4. Possible if I work hard
5. Tough
6. Painfull
7. Hell
Akane said "Of course, the band chose Hell"!
You haven't heard all of Band-Maid until you have heard all of what Band-Maid has to offer. These two songs probably book end the extremes of the band's song list. I say probably as some songs are totally genre busting, and they have also done a full acoustic set too. In 2014 Kanami (Lead guitar) starts teaching Miku (Backing Vocals) how to play guitar and within 7 years she is playing rhythm guitar to Black Hole- genius. Looking forward to you live compilation. Great reaction and analysis. I like to think of these two songs as bookends of their music; grooving/midtempo classic sounding throwback rock and frenetic, chaotic, speeding to disaster speed rock. This was the first time these two songs were played live (due to the pandemic, the album was released in Jan. 2021). Also, Black Hole had a secret lyricist, the famous British metalhead Stephen Hawkins.
