SPARK unboxing – Will I like it? – BUY BUY BUY or bye bye bye? – Viewer reviews at the end.
Positive Grid hit us up looking to sponsor the podcast, I told them I couldn’t promote the Spark without trying one first and they agreed. This is the result, will I accept the sponsorship?

The Spark features a speaker cabinet with bass reflex port. Stuff a sock in that port and you reduce the bass substantially… All you had to do was take the front mesh off and see…and know a little about speaker cabinet design. If you are just now coming here to learn about this amp…because you bought it on clearance…there you go….
I like it a lot. I also use it a lot as a Bluetooth speaker which is great. Mine doesn’t seem to have a huge low end but idk ???????? maybe I’m tone deaf. I’m very happy with mine
It’s pretty easy to fix that perceived bass problem. Simply remove the front screen (it’s just held on with Velcro) and fill the bass port with a cloth. Problem solved.
Same experience for me after unboxing and playing it for a few minutes. Sounds muffled and boomy, how do they make it sound this bad? Even as a bt-speaker it sounds really bad. Obviously many of the reviews i watched prior to purchase must have been incorrect, otherwise I would not find myself considering just selling it on or modifying it less than an hour after turning it on for the first time. Sad stuff.
This review however seems honest. Could hear the rotten sound come through on the video.
All that low end… that would be a pain. Sounds like it’s nearly impossible to take it out as well.
Glad I watched this!
It’s a toy
Ryan’s spring reverb patch?
참 말 많이 한다.
I'm returning mine – way too computerized and difficult to use apps .
I was about to get one, but I would end up having just another bluetooth speaker so thank you for this demo and review! ;]
I’m not looking to have my purchase validated by a YouTuber’s review. The fact is it was a purchase I made based on reality. I don’t have the space or the money for a pedal board or to stock it with pedals. It’s in my desk space so I already have no more patience with cable management. I want to experiment with different sounds and I want to learn. That’s basically it. The sound is decent enough to serve its purpose, that being a practice modeler. I didn’t have the money for my dream Fender Deluxe Reverb and all the rest. I don’t really jam with many people. I’m just learning. That said, it’s far better than the Line 6 Spiders and the Marshall Code. It’s a neat, decent sounding and feature-packed practice amp. Perfect for all my needs. MY needs. Sure I’ll upgrade later. But only when I l’m good enough. Not before. This will help me get to where I want to go.
Do another Tele kit…and another…I have to fill my pockets with mashed potatoes for that Tele sound…Good man!
My Spark Go sounds so much better than that. Worst sounding spark i have ever heard. Something is definitely wrong- bad guitar chord, maybe?
Thank you for the honest review.
I had the same experience: there is defintely an issue with the predominance of lower frequencies above all the others. I think this has to do with the engineering: here Positive Grid has brought the bass reflex technology to the extreme. Probably it's their choice: they wanted a practice amp that could play bass frequencies even at low volume (the equivalent of the "loudness" switch in hi fi equipment), and I think they succeded in this particular goal. This amp for sure has a presence that no other practice amp has, but at the cost of not fair equalization.
In the search of the "perfect practice amp" I bought also a yamaha thr ii 30, which in many ways is the opposite: a bright, cristalline and very responsive amp but it lacks lower frequencies especially at low volume, and high gain / distorted sounds are frankly worse than the spark.
In the end, I dediced to keep both for different purpouse: I use the thr for clean tones and the spark for high gain ones.
Brutal
So, I bought my original Spark amp from a pawn shop a year ago and it didn't sound muddy like that at all. I don't know if this was answered elsewhere, but dod Positive Grid ever get back about the muddy sound. I would think if they wanted to sponsor the podcast they would say something about how lousy that amp sounded.
You need to get the equaliser on your effects loop to cut the low end, the amps ability to produce low end helps when you play with backing tracks, you can hear the bass guitar and bass drum
You asked, what I think so far, I'm half way through the video waiting for you to find the equaliser effects pedal on the app.
Gothic Metal, Black Sabbath distortion.
Since its been a while, maybe a video of how it sits with you now would be cool.
Hook a bass to it
I would assume anybody who already invested so much time and money in all of the gear, might also be immediately biased by getting it all in one box.
Sold my Spark40 and got a Yamaha THR30II instead. The Guitar sounds are way better. One minor ”backside” is streaming music while playing guitar there i feel the soundf is somewhat not as great. But again my prio is great guitar sound..
I bought a spark go ain't had it long enough to form a opinion bought it for the truck I'm going to head phone jack to radio just needed something for the road
For a bedroom guitarist who wants the guitar to sound good by itself, the bass level is appropriate IMO. Many amps don't have enough bass to sound good at low volumes.
The app is key
