Spector Bantam 4 Bass Guitar | Review

At Gi, we have a lot of respect for Stuart Spector and his work. His bass designs are iconic and are used the world over by some of the very best in bass guitar including, Doug Wimbish, who has a pair of great instruments that have notched up an incredible amount of recording, touring and clinic hours. Dan Veall takes a long look at this short scale bass with the Spector Bantam 4.

  • Dream bass!! I love short scales and I want this one really bad. But extremely expensive for me

  • Swap out the DC pickups for a EMG 35P4 in neck and 35CS or TW in the bridge and the bass would be perfect.

  • One could really "shred" on that neck and still have that massive tone Spector is known for!

  • This confusing! Another well known online bass reviewer presented this bass in May 2018. His bass had an EQ system with Vol / Vol / Tone / Tone. Also the bridge on his bass different in that it had no intonation adjustment screws i.e. the same as on my Spector Legend Classic – loosen the bridge locking screws and push the saddles back and forth hoping you don't mess up the saddle you finally perfected.

ALSO confusing(!) – Spector's site today (Dec. 1, 2018) states the EQ system is stacked bass/treble plus separate volume controls for each pickup. But here we're told it has master volume and PAN control (which I prefer myself).

  • Perhaps the best review I have ever sat through. Thorough and nuanced. I have been interested in this bass for a long time. This review seals the deal. Thank you SO much.

  • Nice, this thing sounds like it could sound massive in a rock/metal mix.

If I ever get a new bass, I'll definitely go for a Spector.
