  • Another great lesson. Steve beautifully breaks down the differences between the Major or Ionian, the Lydian and the Mixolydian scales by simply altering the 4th and the 7th degrees. The problem for me is, I've already got too much of the seventh degree. I get it from my girlfriend every time I forget to wash the dishes. ☹️ Great lesson. Thank you for the breakdown.

  • Aloha Steve, I love your videos. Your choice of words and delivery make understanding what you’re trying to convey so easy. Thank you very very much! I’ve learned so much.

  • This is how I learned the modes and honestly the best way to "visually" see it on the guitar. On piano, playing modes is so simple and I can play it all day. The problem with the guitar is that the strings and tuning screws up what is otherwise a pretty linear concept. My problem right now is playing a mode in two octaves up and down because some of the patterns change slightly on the B and High E string.

  • Steve, you have a great way of explaining. I was familiar with all of this but never realized why the pentatonic left it out. So much better in my brain now. Thank you.

  • Steve you are one of my favourite teachers. There's so much information on Youtube and people who know their stuff yet so little good teachers. You make it easy for us to understand theory that sounds like rocket science from the mouths of others.

  • Steve – question for you. I'm starting to dabble into the world of Modes. Cautiously. I can't seem to get an answer form anywhere as to – if you're in certain key, let's say we're playing in the key of G, and I'm using the Ionian Mode, if then I want to switch to the Mixolydian Mode, what is the easiest way of reference the G Mixolydian Mode to other Modes with the same notes? (Just FYI – I do know that G Mixolydian = A Aeolian = B Locrian = C Ionian, etc).

But if I didn't know, what would be the best way to figure this out?
