Synth Sounds For Guitar From Meris, Boss, Beetronics & More – That Pedal Show

In this video we discuss synth sounds for guitar… but not in the MIDI-pickup-to-trigger-samples sense. Nope, here we’re talking about waveforms, oscillators, filters, modulation, manipulation and all that. The pedal everybody is talking about (in 2019) is the Meris Enzo, and for good measure we add the new SY-1 from Boss – the first Compact sized pedal to offer synthesis with no MIDI pickup required. Plus some others.
Join us as we stumble through some sounds, ask and answer questions and hopefully trigger some creative ideas and possibilities for your own music journey. This is guitar, Jim, but maybe not as you know it.
Enjoy the episode!

  • You guys should do a new synth pedal roundup. It's been 4 years since the last and I'm in the market!

  • Enzo is my favorite one. But the problem is there's no patch to save. I can't use it live. Cause i want to make many sounds. I cannot change the buttons live. So sad because i'm still stock with my GR kit of Roland. Can wait for a pedal like that who can save patch. Let's go Meris !!!

  • Lol I just skipped through some parts to find some random sound I liked and the sounds are just too silly . Iv never liked these types of pedals and don’t find them musical at all.

I would be interested in a synth sound similar to something more straigjtforward sounding, like a synth tone I’d get from maybe a keyboard that isn’t over the top Star Wars on acid sounding. Just something to write synth riffs but doesn’t sound like a laser blaster or washy and ambient.

I can’t every imagine most of the sounds I skimmed through being used on a decent sounding song .

That being said I’ll watch the video and see what I missed. I like straight forward sounding synth tones , nothing totally weird with tons of layers or doesn’t ring out like a normal instrument

  • the digitech synth wah sound reminds me of the sound from Daft Punks "Human after all"

  • I still haven’t heard a single sound from these synth stomp boxes that make me want to bother with them. At least my Roland jdxi is consistent and forces me to learn piano????

  • Might be time to revisit this now that you've got 3 more years experience with them. ✌️????

  • Been a stressful time as of late. Just want to say thanks for this show and the optimism education and escape it provides!!

  • One little tip. If you use a pedal with horrendous frequency spectrum, try to add mid focused overdrive AFTER that pedal. It works beautifully and concentrate your sound in the place of guitar

  • Love your channel. Just to add, "ocelot" is for ocelotl, nahualt word for "tiger", so it was the translation given for the frailes in actual México, for a european dictionary in 1579. Saludos de Ciudad de México.

  • Ok I’m catching up on oldies here, but as an aside, Moog themselves also made a guitar/synth pedal, called the Freqbox. It is an unruly beast that perplexes everyone at first, bc Moog made such excellent clean sounding synths and all the awesome moogerfooger effects, but then there’s this Freqbox thing, that’s just a wall of heavy fuzz-like distortion with an autowah and crazy high frequency caterwauling, which just goes berserk as soon as you touch it. Guitar works best through the sine/triangle wave & minimal autowah settings, where it sounds great. The range of distortion settings are more useful when playing a subtractive moog synth through it, to add more fuzzy frequencies to your output for further filtering sweeps & phasing & whatnot. …good rule of thumb with other synth pedals too.

  • Using my SY-300 first with a GT-1, now with a GT-1000; also have a SY-1000 for my GK guitars.

SY-1 is Boss' entry level guitar synth IMO.
