  • If you’re used to the original Sansamp RBI rack unit and you are expecting the Sans section of the Fly Rig to the give you the same characteristic tones of a tube amp you will probably be disappointed. That being said, this is a great way to get a really good tone that is not as colored and sounds like your bass very easily in a very small portable unit. I think all of the effects are very useable and the compressor works surprisingly well for only having a single control knob. Now for me the Fly Rig really shines when it’s used with the RBI rack preamp to get studio quality bass tones in a tiny package for the stage even if the backline sucks or isn’t even available and you have to rely on your signal going to FOH and using the PA. I love Darkglass as much as anyone else but I wouldn’t compare anything that they offer to the Fly Rig..however the Dug Pinick signature model Fly Rig achieves more similar overdriven tones and distorted bass sounds akin to many of the Darkglass pedals if that’s what you’re really looking for.

  • Really nice overview, thanks for sharing. I tend to discount these types of videos when they come from manufacturers and dealers, so it's good to see an individual put the unit to the test. You've done a solid job. You also have a really nice room with some sick gear.

  • I agree about the "ok" effects – looking forward to the pedal version of the dUg 1000 head they're currently working on

  • as a bass player, the drive on the fly bass isnt nearly as good as say the two notes, le bass (or the vintage micro) but i have the le bass which is the best pedal for this job :-p

  • I love you already but giving some space to the bassists makes me even more horny xD However, exited for all the announced reviews.would be great if you could say a few words about the b7k and its tonal differences to the vintage microtubes. or even test one of this lovely black boxes?^^ Just asking because i play in a prog band and i think a modern sounding b7k would fit and cut better.

  • DarkGlass is really starting to give Sansamp a good run for the money. Now, DarkGlass is expensive. Thats no joke but they have awesome sounding modern tone bass pedals. I havent heard the classic vintage sound pedals yet but thats not the tone i like anyway. My question is do I shell out the not so small dollars for the B7K or stay with my SansAmp?

  • My only concern is that I think my original SansAmp has a better overall sound with the presence control and blend.

  • Yieeehaw! Bass stuff incoming! I like! I'm really lookin' forward to your bass pedal series. Mainly because of two reasons.

    First: It is bass stuff!

Second: You rewiew the stuff. I really, really like your videos. So much that I even watch them without beeing a guitar player 😉

The Fly Rig seems to be a handy piece of gear. Would love to see how it compares to the Valeton Dapper Bass, when it comes out.

  • Perfect timing. I'm in the market for a bass pre-amp with D.I out. Can you get your hands on an Ampeg SCR DI, too?

  • You had me at bass players  lol lol lol   two thumbs up Henning !!! Between $249 and $269 here in the states. As for the Bass the World site the guy did 30 pedals in 5 minutes, no commentary at all in any of his pedal so called reviews. Your commentary and the fact you actually turn the knobs (that's what….) and allow the listener to hear what the pedal goes through are more valuable to the viewer. As an example @ 13:30 when you turned the boost down the drive also turned down without you touching the drive control. Interactive electronics coooollll.
