  • I just got one of these, and with a couple of minor tweaks it has quickly become my favorite amp. I agree that it could be built more sturdily. The aluminum chassis and particle board cabinet aren’t likely to be very robust on tour – I would get a custom live-in case before taking it anywhere out of town. But man, it sounds incredible.

Edit- btw, I checked the schematics for the 6G6 and the 1483, and the circuits are VERY different.

  • I have thought about getting this amplifier….????
I have a 1432. I just went through the electronics and it sounds fantastic. …????????????????????
I really don’t have the room for a bigger one. I have so many amp now. ….????????

  • Awesome video. I've wanted one of those silvertone AIAB pedals, but have the Supro drive pedal and everyone says that's close. You might consider checking out the Supro and Harmony amps too-both vintage and reissue. Went down the rabbit hole on reverb and a lot of cool ST amps. The 1482 looked cool (low watt 1×12?) I've been getting into the goldfoil/Hershey bar pickup sound as well, specifically Silvertone 1420 guitars. The whole vintage era of Silvertone, Danalectro, Supro, Harmony, Valco, National, etc. Is a world unto itself.

  • I’m in. Challenge accepted. Thanks for the suggestions, I’ll let you know when it’s ready

  • weird that your only demo on the bass was all the way up at the 10-12th fret area …. would have been good to hear some lower notes.

  • Duribility was not an issue with mine. Had the original cab with mine and played it out for 10 years as my main amp. Only the second owner and it had the original tubes. But I would definitely recommend re-cabbing.

  • Great video. You should get commission cause you made me buy one????. Can’t wait till it hits my door. Thanks for sharing.

  • I have a 1483. An awesome little hidden gem if ya ask me. If you find one, buy it. You won’t regret it. Great video, thank you.

  • Sounds very good 🙂
I know you said you did not take speakers in account, but… Do a EVM12/Celestion/Fane or something, would be interesting to hear.

  • Yeah these are built terribly, working on one on my channel right now if you want to see what they look like on the inside.

  • About 10 years ago I was doing a gig using a Harmony Rocket into a Silvertone vintage amp, and the mic was some old elvis looking thing running into a 1964 bogner for all the vintage drip…and…welp…i shocked my face to high heaven, lips first. haha be careful that you dont electrocute yourselves using old gear!

  • so… Jack White actually uses the 1485 which is highly different from the 1484. its more wattage and has a 6×10 cabinet. It also has way more gain on tap and headroom which is what gave Jack a lot of his signature sound 🙂

  • Mojo Tone made one a few years back in a Marshall style head as a kit, I believe for Jason White of Green Day, but you could buy the kits for around $800.

  • I ask Silvertone to reissue the 1448 on every of their IG posts, they like the comments so maybe… Plus they did a pedal to kind of recreate this amp. Let's hope

  • I'm with you – but till the reissue try the Jackson Audio Silvertone Twin Twelve 1484 Pedal – it is soo beautifully made and i love it – i dont have the direct comparison but it's my new favourite to spice up my fender Reverb with Jack and Dan sounds!

  • I checked the schematics briefly. The preamp section looks really different from a bassman(6g6), especially in the eq-section. For a reissue someone should implement a switch for chathode-bias(1483 – 23W) to fixed-bias(1484 – 60W as advertised in the sears catalog) – that should solve the problem with the headroom. I guess someone pointed it out before me, but Jack White used the 1485. This amp has 4x6L6GC's and is more in Twin-territory(output-wise).

  • That sounded awesome. Brownface era was my favourite Fender era as well. I really want to get a Line 6 Helix now just so I can test out their version of the Silvertone amp without spending a fortune on an old and potentially unreliable amp.

  • The 1485 is the Jack White amp . The preamp and transformers are the same as the 1484. The 1485 has more output and was paired with a 6×10 Jensen loaded cabinet. The reverb and tremolo are great. Especially the reverb nothing on the market like it.

  • How you like those barefaced cabs? I’ve only seen them online but im very interested in hearing one in person.

  • I really enjoy your detailed observations on equipment and guitar tones. I like the "dirty" noisey guitar sounds.

  • DUDE I have 2 of these with the twin twelve cab
NEVER have found a better clean tone
But damn can it do anything
