  • Oh man, the tones on Load/Reload are so underrated. I dont even know how to go about recreating them .. I have never heard anything quite like it. Nice to see Load/Reload getting some appreciation.

  • Bloodbath – Like Fire is the filthiest, most putrid guitar tone ever.
I can't get enough. Anything HM-2 just hits that war nerve.

  • Great vid. Some for me: Black Album, Daylight, Heartache, Untouchables, RIP, Clayman (great but not perfect, def set the scene), honorary: Jester/Whoracle/Colony/Foregone/Soundtrack/Reroute, Reign, RTL, Heartwork, Doomsday Machine. There are plenty of great tones, but the peaks are so high–plus each new album needs its own thing. Tbh, a decent amount of engs have a decent bit to go–not to spread negativity, just there're so many good methods but equally as many "bad".

  • Syzygial Miscreany is heavier than any other Scott Burns production. I don’t know how he pulled it off, but it’s true.

  • Killswitch Engage's As Daylight Dies has one of the coolest metal guitar tones still

  • Black Sabbath Paranoid, Racer X Second Heat, Killswitch Engage Alive or Just Breathing

  • Yeah, definitely Train of Thought. They did some magic with the road masters on that album. The tone is fat and fuzzy, but at the same time it cuts with the mids and it's articulate.

  • Slash's sound is awesome! It sounds kinda weird isolated but in the mix it's great. I think UYI – Snakepit era is the best sound wise.

  • Great Video, this is Not a best of (sorry so many) but the actual impact of these Guitarists and their sound truly changed me. the songs are imo the best examples of the tone. Iommi-War Pigs, Randy Rhoads-Believer, Warren D'Martini-Lay it Down, Prince-Bambi, Megadeth-Sweating Bullets, Pantera-Walk, Queensryche-mn156, Dokken-Into The Fire,
Mötley Crüe-Looks That Kill, Underoath-In Regards To Myself, Opeth-Heir Apparent, Agathodaemon-Ghost of a Soul, Chimaira-Coming Alive, Coram Lethe-Splendid Chaos, Deftones-Minerva, Dio-The Last in Line, Fear Factory-Decent, Grave-bullets are mine, Helmet-Harmless, Ministry-Stigmata, Neurosis-enemy of the sun, Obituary-The end complete, Omnium Gatherum-Soul Journeys, Pestilence-Spheres(whole album, Prong-Cleansing(whole album), Sentenced-New Age Messiah, Textures-Old days born anew, Wintersun-Winter Madness. and an Honorable Mention to everything Steve Howe does.

  • Metallica's Black album and Testament's The Gathering Are my top two, then Slayer's Seasons of the Abyss and God Hates us all

  • Korn's Untouchables had an insane guitar tone. The triple rectifiers blended with Diezel VH4's, that's a tone that springs to mind. Also, the guitar tone on Dimmu Borgir's Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia, that one is so brutal, yet with such clarity. That's the album that got me thinking about ENGL amps.

    4. Opeth – Ghost Reveries
    5. Killswitch Engange – The End of Heartache
    6. Diablo – Eternium

  • KSE – As Daylight Dies and Parkway Drive – Horizons for me lately. Anything Adam D did in this era is out of this world, it's crazy to me that it's still pretty much the gold standard for metal tones nearly 20 years later!

  • The best guitar tone of all time for me, technically speaking, is "Dead heart in a dead world" by Nevermore (Jeff Loomis) and mixed by Andy Sneap.

  • What a great video 2 guys that I really enjoy watching having a tone nerd hang hope they're be many more

  • Trivium – Shogun. So full and intense. It fills the room. Reading about how they created that tone is almost as crazy as what Metallica did for the black album.

  • I would add Carcass Heartwork, Machine Head Burn my Eyes, EVH (pick any album), Periphery 2, and Steve Vai Passion and Warfare. Great video, I watch SDS a lot and John's content is always fun, and I love this channel and own a ton of ML products. I hope to see some more of these videos. I'd love to see Mikko and Nolly have a chat about speakers and IR's.

  • My favourite guitar tone is on Ulcerate 'Stare Into Death And Be Still'. Full range, medium gain, so articulate, bright and clear. Perfect tone.

  • For me "Master of Puppets" tone is one of my favorites (I could listen to "disposable heroes" any day and think, that's it, that's a perfect metal tone), then there are some tones I loved throughout the years and later I realized they were all albums produced by Colin Richardson: Carcass's "heartwork", Machine head's "Burn my eyes" and Fear factory's "demanufacture", all those to my ears are perfect

  • Totally agree on the Load/Reload tones. Also Garage Inc. The guitars on those records sound incredible. I'd describe the sound as heavy tone for adults who don't go to McDonald's for lunch. Full of color, texture, class and color, but also bite and muscle. I also love Petrucci's tones on Scenes From A Memory. For full on Metal brutality, nothing beats Strapping Young Lad's "City" for me. As far as clean, crunchy and vintage inspired tones go, I love what Opeth have been doing on their 70s inspired albums.

  • I would say Kill'm All is a good tone but it started the Thrash genre.. As with Jon, my intro to Metallica
