I have the original thR now for like 10 years. I use it everyday. Mostly clean with a bit of breakup. The tone is excellent. But yeah I do want a newer one. Use with the new app. The stereo effect works good with the built in reverb.
Yamaha THR all day ????
The Yamaha thr isn't good cuz it's "cool", it's cuz it's stereo,it absolutely fills a room with sound at a low level, is 3d sounding and sounds absolutely amazing. It's a piece of hifi. That's why it's amazing
A very interesting seminar here! You speak of things I've never heard of, notably the fret rap. I dint realize that was a real thing . I ordered a Spark 40 t'day, $330 Cdn, taxes in, bout 70 bucks cheaper'n Amazon. A sale I guess. Now that red thing that replaces the original on front of your mini Spark, that's something I will investigate for my 40. I will have them write Bitchen-Fyne on mine. I have re-christened the headstock of a bunch of my cheap refinish jobs with that. It reads kinda like a long established, cultured, old country family name. I think. I would surely like to sometime order some of your pickups for one of my guitars but i would reserve that honour for my most excellent guitar of all. I have not been able to decide which one that is yet. Anyway, it's bin fun talking with you, thanks for the informative discussion and I do look fwd to our next encounter.
Just ordered the Spark Mini cos I just realized that the mini had Internal Rechargable battery lol! I had the 40 but sold it cos used it to replace my amp to practice but then I sold my amp and started using a pd go and now a fractal fm3 and that made the spark 40 not useful to me anymore.
But the mini being light, portable and rechargable wow! Thats awesome! And seems it doesnt have the bassy sound of the big one, which makes it even better! Excited to get it!
The BEST bedroom amp I've ever used is the Roland Blues Cube Hot 30watt/.5watt. I turn it to .5 watt when I want to play very low volume without sacrificing tone.

Great video!
Boss Katana Air comes with a wireless transmitter.
One stop shopping.
I have one. Love it.
Is the Yamaha better?
Anyone have both?
Cheers from Texas
I have a spark mini. The new boss cube looks pretty badass. That Yamaha is expensive
Hi Dylan! I would disagree with the last person's comment about the Yamaha not having better sounds than the Spark mini. I own the two (THR 30 ii W and Spark mini), the two are great, but when it comes to sounds … Yamaha is definitely wining the game. So far, I have never heard in my life (I am 58) a so small amp, sounding so good … I recorded my son's last cover of a Pink Floyd famous song (wish you were here) with using it … I am surrounded by professional musicians who are my friends, they did not believe I used that amp for the recording … So as a matter of advice, try the two before buying one as it is also a matter of taste … ????????
Dylan, is that a
BAD A$$ Speed boat, behind you, sitting on that fender head?? Its black so its blending in. I'm a diecast car collector. So I'm quick to spot diecast everything lol.
Ok keep the cool vids dropping!!!@
I have a Positive Grid Spark and a Yamaha THR. Love them both.
Thr 10X
And i love it.
The Spark is my favorite.
I use katana head, with xsonic kat switch and the extended app – you need that app.
I have to go against the popular opinion and say I really did not care for the Yamaha THR30-II I had at all. It sounded weird, kind of phasy, and boxy, idk hard to describe. Comparing it back to back with the Spark 40, it wasn't even a contest to me; I kept the Spark and sold the Yamaha. Neither really competes with my tube amps though ultimately. Sorry, they just don't.
Blackstar Fly 3 Mini Stereo Pack with Extension Cab, pushes 6 Watts and gets plenty loud for the bedroom with no rattles and plenty of "room" above and below the signal from the guitar.
And, yeah I know: Blackstar boohoo they're shit, they're trash, they suck, they blow, they work the shaft while fondling the balls and everything else that's said about the company… That's fine. I dont even disagree but I am telling it like it is regarding my personal experience with this particular model, so.. Honestly, if I were to be in a position to buy a different amp I'd take any other brand over Blackstar due to the fact that the build quality feels cheap and that's an even more unforgivable sin than lack of headroom or inferior sound reproduction / subpar signal amplification since at the end of the day I can always modify my signal or adjust the output to suit my taste but I can't fix the issue of the build quality in general feeling kinda flimsy and cheap to the touch as well as looks..
So, that's my $0.02
Yamaha THR30ll is the best thing I ever bought for my guitar practice..????????????
THRII all the way. Best little amp ever
Own a THR, but unfortunately, the power supply jack is broken and it is more expensive to repair than replace the entire amp (the factory replacement modules are crazy expensive). Too bad because it is an awesome piece of gear. Right now, I use the Katana Mini – it’s ok for the price, but I’m not a fan of the Katana line in general.
I use the small desktop amp – Boss eBand JS-10 – not too loud, good fidelity, lots of presets/effects, one can load mp3's into it, which you can loop sections. 2 inputs, second input can be any instrument. No phone interface.
I hope the spark is better than the riff. that thing is a hot raging dumpster fire.
I don’t have a desktop amp. I haven’t yet seen a use case for it for me. I have long used amPlugs/MightyPlug or my phone or iPad for when I’m away from my main effects and amp/sim. Maybe if I ever get my living room organized in a way to keep a desktop amp & guitar in there…because my partner has encouraged me to set up something like that. But it always feels like I’d be bothering other people in the house if I was playing in the living room.
I use the spark 40 everyday since feb 2021. I’ve got so much better at recording because of this little thing absolutely love it for a practice amp!
Couldn't find the link in the description for the D'Angelico contest entry?
Yes, I have the original Spark amp, though I don’t use it much lately.
Blackstar fly 3, beat up
Best practice amp? My Fender Bassman of course, at home he whispers to me, but on stage he blows the heads off the whole block. Greetings Dylan!
I have the Spark Mini and the Spark 40. They are very cool.
I have a yamaha THR3 it's a great jazz amp
I had the original Spark Pre-ordered and it sucks. It's bassy and the controls change next to nothing about the tone and even as DI box, it sucks. It's bluetooth, listen to music out of it, it sucks.
I'd say Yamaha THR II became overpriced. Like significantly overpriced. It's pretty good sounding, but for price and pure tone (probably not looks for most ppl) the Vox Adio Air GT is the best practice amp out there… as long as you're not listening with your eyes.
Otherwise the Yamaha wins if you listen with your eyes.
But Vox actually models a lot of amps, and the tones I get from my friend's hand wired AC30 and my own AC15 are no surprise from the AC30 and TB channels but the Fender Deluxe model is pretty close and the Marshall is a little more of a JTM45 than the JCM800 you might expect. But the Mesa Boogie model is pretty close too and sounds like me dialing in a early 2000's Mesa.
The Vox just sounds better and it's priced better for a desktop practice amp.
GREAT video Dylan! Any chance you can do a demo video of the Spark Mini vs the regular Spark? I do have the regular Spark and I wonder what the advantages of having a Mini also. If you can do that – it'll be great. Thanks again for this video as well as your great channel.
Used amps in your local area. Don't waste your money.
Decommissioned my Spark40. The footswitch was such a bust for having to have the app open constantly to use it.
I do have a Spark 40 and love it.
I also have a Marshal DSL1 and a Bugera V5 and find myself playing through the Spark most of the time.
