The Dead Weather’s Jack Lawrence on Bass Technique (Episode 2 of 4)
THE DEAD WEATHER SECOND OF FOUR TECHNIQUE AND INSTRUMENT DISCUSSION VIDEOS
DODGE AND BURN OUT NOW
The Dead Weather have released the second of four technique and instrument-based videos. In this second episode, bass deconstructionist, Jack Lawrence, reveals the secrets of how he achieves his distinct bottom end sound for The Dead Weather. Lawrence demonstrates some of his most head nodding bass lines and leaves no question that without the bass, there would be no Dead Weather. The video, directed by Jack White, concludes with an incendiary live performance of “Mile Markers” from the new album Dodge And Burn. Each band members’ technique videos showcases a different song from the band’s career, including tracks from their forthcoming album Dodge and Burn (out September 25th). Stay tuned in the coming weeks for the remaining two videos of the series from The Dead Weather and Third Man Records.
Dodge and Burn – the band’s third album and first full-length release in five years – is available for
pre-order now, with all digital pre-orders receiving
an instant grat download of “I Feel Love (Every Million Miles).”
The track is also on sale now at digital retailers worldwide.

Nobody:
The Dead Weather: I think your face needs melting.
I have never seen someone play with exclusively upstrokes before
Jack is so scarily attractive
Skrillex killin it on the bass
Nasty bass! Love it
Real talk, when they started playing mile marker Jack was moving so fast I went to see if I still had the video on 1.5 speed! ????
That Blue Bloods riff that he does is so f**** sick
The Music would be better without her weird vocal. Love all other jack, just not the weather. Vocals impress me none, just my opinion.
Lol I grew up with jack. Literally looks the same as he did when we were kids
I hope Jack's next project after the 2018-19 Raconteurs campaign (& that pesky epidemic) is a new Dead Weather album & tour…
Can anyone tell me if his micro synth or distortion is first?
That is one dope bass player
YESSSS! Tune kicks ass!
That bass sounds soo good and no surprise a White Falcon bass.
He's shy ????????????????
allison is so scarily attractive
smarts, talent and looks.
love how in depth this goes 😀
The Bass from Blue Blood Blues is actually really cute and peaceful without the Bass synth
Loved the symbol flames!
What is the visual effect on this video?
Where's Allison's video?
As much as I love the throaty sound of the effect on this lick (on "Blue Blood Blues", to be specific), I almost prefer the way it sounds without the effect.
It has a John Paul Jones' style sound which I find very appealing.
i like how jack in the background is like “but you’re high right now?” and jack just goes “im very high right now” lmao
LJ is so underrated!
What is the name of this Bass?
I need to hear the intro to 'Monster' by L7 through a Crate guitar amp with the distortion on to know if this is the same Jack….
