In the words of Earl Scruggs "It's either got it or it ain't".
Money ????
And sometimes you'll plays stinker. This is particularly true of Martin, though I know they're not a boutique maker really. I have played bad Collings guitars for sure. I just compared two 5300 dollar D41's at a shop yesterday and I wouldn't take one of them home for free. Other one played good.
My $100 all mahogany Mitchell sounds stellar.
What about a Martin
Agreed.. 2006 Bryan Sutton edition Bourgeois Banjo Killer is what I play and every time I pick it up I fall in love again
Larrivee…what is their collection of subtleties, it's sound?
I’ll answer it. Collings is always consistently better. I wish I owned one.
Boutique guitars are better because of what I call "a collection of subtleties". There are many little things which make a guitar better and these hand made instruments tend to have a LOT of those tiny things done right. They are all subtle. But when you add them up that collection of subtleties is what makes a guitar special.
The only reason you need a guitar over 1200 dollars..which in todays craftsmanship and manufacturing technics..sound..play..and fit n finish are most the time superior…is your trying to validate your guitar technique…believe me….a true musician can make a 200 dollar guitar sound like a 20000 dollar guitar..FACT
Everyone’s ears are different. Some lose hearing over the years and they love how a particular guitar sounds over another. Older men usually can afford these instruments. So it makes sense to make them brighter and sound better to older men. These are also wall decoration for some and they are art. While also being cheaper than a lot of paintings. Let people enjoy what they enjoy. Im glad we have this visual and emotional outlet in the acoustic shoppe. I’m glad they love what they do and do their best to be accessible to everyone.
I actually had someone recently ask me who I play guitar. I had to answer, why don't you?
Yes I have a cedar over rosewood Washburn Tanglewood like Dylan had 40 years ago when I bought mine, but I don't like it now. It is my wife's favorite. She plays piano. I prefer Martin, but I love you guys.
I'd take any of them
Try all of them and the one that inspires you to play is the best one.
I do demo videos for the Fretted Buffalo shop in Buffalo New York. The store carries a handful of great “smaller” guitar companies. Thanks for your comments, they ring true. Every builder has their thing and each one is unique to that builder. I’ve been doing these videos for about three years and for me bourgeois guitars stand out. And that’s not to say that I don’t love all the other builders guitars that come through. I always seem to drift back to the Bourgeois. sound and feel as well as the aesthetic. So should everyone go out and buy one, no, you should search out the one that makes you feel like that. Thanks for your comments I enjoy your videos
Bourgeois makes My favorite guitars!
It's the same with cars (and mandolins, electric guitars…) it's all about preference and taste. There's no accounting for taste, and one man's meat is another man's poison, as we know. We all want different things from our chosen stuff, so don't just get what your idol got! Their hands and ears differ from (y)ours….
Bourgeois always blown my mind, so much overtones yet clarity and note separation at the same time. Dana's ear for voicing is so special. Working there can tell you , every aspect is impeccable. Even the side braces if one spot is not right or the right shape, we pop it out and replace it. So detailed!
Good short y'all
I want a Bobby bouche'
