  • As compared to the 4-string passive Jazz Basses I have, the output of this Player Plus Jazz Bass V is still fairly LESS, despite having the double 9 volt battery arrangement. Yes, I used brand new 9 volts. When I play with this bass, I always use a mini boost pedal to give that additional boost in output signal to the amp that sounds better than simply turning up the volume of the amp even more.

I’ve used the Player Plus Jazz Bass V as my sometimes main, live, gigging bass for 3 years for a bit of everything from Country, Rock, Funk, Pop and Blues.

The active circuit has considerable tonal flexibility, which I use judiciously, so I never use the passive sounds and in some cases the diversity of sounds and styles require the tonal flexibility of that active circuit.

Because the MIM instruments are so good, I never considered buying any of the American Jazz Bass V versions that were much more expensive (recalling the Ultra version was more than TWICE) as expensive. I just can’t imagine those instruments being verifiably X dollars-worth better in sound, quality and playability.

I’m still happy with my purchase and at $1,250 or about that, then, for features, quality, sound, tone, and price, it’s the best value Jazz Bass V in Fender’s lineup, and remains so.

  • This bass looks almost exactly like mine……but mine is the Squier Jazz V. It's the Squier version of this one, I believe. Lol.

And I'm not complaining, because I LOVE that thing!!!!!

  • Hey, here's a fun fact. All of the "made in Mexico" basses are actually being made with the original machines that were used in America but later sent to the Mexico factory

  • I just bought one from Sweetwater. As always, it was set up properly and in perfect condition (I've bought other basses from them before). I like buying from Sweetwater; my stuff has always been set up right and in mint condition. It was even in perfect tune. I recommended them to one of my brothers. I bought the Opal Spark with Maple Fingerboard. I like it.

  • It’s a very Robust sounding instrument with a real nice bite to it. I’ve had and a couple of high end Basses that are phenomenal instruments but like them or loath Fenders just sit in the mix so well

  • Hi Jermaine. Is there a 70s Jazz V of Fender? I find all Vs are based on 60s. But I want a 70s sounding V. Great review. TIA

  • Thanks for the great review. When in passive mode, is it essentially like the tone is at 100%? I hear there’s no tone control so wondering what the tone level is by default in passive, if that makes sense.
