The guitar gear of Jeff Loomis, Nevermore. THEY ARE BACK! Dead Heart and Dreaming in Neon Black.
Jeff Loomis and Van Williams are returning with Nevermore.
DEAD HEART IN A DEAD WORLD:
Maxon OD pro. Od820 which is like a TS9 modded to be a bit more like a klon
1.5 tortex sharp pick.
Vintage 30 speakers.
Mesa Dual Recto
Sm57 on Celestion Vintage 30 speakers.
Old info from Sneap Forum:
Custom Built 7 string guitars (with a .80 gauge low B string!) loaded with EMG 707 pickups. The guitars were routed into a Ibanez TS-9 Tube Screamer that was used as a signal boost. The settings on the TS-9 were:
Drive: 9 O’Clock
Tone: 10 O’Clock
Level: 12 O’Clock
This was fed into the amp that was used on all of the rhythm and leads. The amp used was a Mesa Boogie (2 Channel) Dual Rectifier that was straight from the box.
The Mesa Recto was routed into a Marshall 1960B 4X12 Cab with the stock G12T-75 Celestions they have. Settings on the Mesa Recto were:
Silicon Diode Setting
Bold Setting
Red (Modern) Channel
Treble: 11.30
Mids: 10 O’Clock
Bass: 11.30
Gain: 12:30
Presence: 12.30
Master: 10 O’Clock
There were 4 tracks of rhythm, with 2 tracks being panned 100% left and right, and the other set being panned 80% left and right. There was no compression, limiting, etc…only a slight touch of EQ used. Two Shure SM-57’s were used for recording, one on the center of the cone about an inch away. This was the approximate’s denoted by Andy Sneap.

I totally agree with Smyth being the best match for Loomis in Nevermore. Just watch the results Enemies of Reality and my favorite This Godless Endeavour.
I was attending university in 2000. I met a singer in my Cosmology class, whose band was playing that night, opening for Nevermore and Mercyful Fate, when King Diamond rejoined the band. It was the first time I heard Nevermore. They blew Fate off the stage. Fate sounded horrible that night. My friend and I left the show early After I left the show I headed to Toronto's (now defunct) Sam The Record Man, a cultural/musical landmark in Toronto. As I was selecting their CD's Dead Heart in a Dead World and Dreaming Neon Black. I heard someone say "You're going to like those". It was Jeff. We chatted for a bit. Cool guy.I blasted Beyond Within many times on the subway rides to and from University.
It was not a 0.80 gauge but a 0.70 gauge … 10/52 set with 0.70 exactly tuned in A# said by loomis himself on a interview
Amazing man. Back in the day, I bought a 7-string because of Morbid Angel, Carcass and Nevermore's Dead Heart. I still use my 7-string frequently. Jeff is a phenomenal guitar player. Being able to play Megadeth at just 16 years old…Nevermore did the right thing, and I will definitely support them.
Who would win in a fight? Loomis or God? ????
Was the g12-80 bass cone on the first Anthrax album already?
good lookin out on the cone discovery m8.
Probably might be a good idea to put your valuable speakers some place safe. Bitching about them getting messed up when they are sitting out in open space just sounds silly. Almost snowflake-ish.
Never stop being the old man shaking his fist.
Sorry, but no Dane, no Nevermore.
My first 7 string (a harley benton too) arrived the day that jeff anouces that mevermore is gonna be back … for me the sound of dead heart in a dead world and fear factory demanufacture was a pinaccle when i first hear it in 2005
In Scott Ian’s defense, he’s not even close to the level of player as Jeff Loomis.
Shit, did I see right?
You never did Pantera soundlike? There's bass tone episode on Cowboys if I ever knew one!
This, also was awesome. Proper wide heavy tone. ????
Best music youtube channel is back MF!
Brother, hear me up, Nevermore with Matt Barlow on vocals? What do you think? Iced Earth is dead and buried under Capitol Hill, I mean…
I was at the Festival in California where Billy Milano decked Warrel. I was disappointed that Nevermore canceled their performance but I had heard his nose was in bad shape which is not good for singing. Drinking was just the start for that man. He loved to be messed up. I was at a Nevermore show at the Knitting Factory in Hollywood and he was having bizarre interactions with some thing he saw up in the rafters. There was nothing there. He could still sing and handle his shit at the time but that was to be short lived. Thankfully they got Andy to mix Enemies Of Reality after the first release. One of my favorite vocalists, I do like some cheese on my metal it keeps it out of the mundane for me. Another great video-thank you.
What if you just discovered an all new secret distorted tone by adding silicon dioxide spheres to the glue around the edge of the speaker cone? Patent that sh!t! LOL
That speaker with the bass cone sounded incredible, great find!
Cool. Now, let's see if you can do Strapping Young Lad.
JL is one of the best players in metal. Bar none.
