In this video, I’m playing through over 100 years of Jazz Bass legacy, featuring some of my favorite players. Using a G Blues, I’m going in in the style of some of my biggest heroes for one chorus each, laying out the history of bass playing and the evolution of the Jazz Bass Solo. I wish I could like this again every time I watch it.
Respect!! It's especially hard to get a sense of the early pioneers, Page, Foster, Blanton – so few recordings or videos, and was really interesting to see how you captured that evolution of RH technique. Plus your Mingus gave me a chuckle, and I think you nailed what's unusual about Haden's approach. Great work!
????????????????
well done
LOVE THIS!! Brilliant and Beautiful!
There are so many great bassist that are not included on this list… if they were all included it would be (in 500 or more Choruses) I really enjoyed these 15 greats and appreciate hearing the contrasting styles in one place, quite a feat of remembering and playing… mucho thanks!
A great vidéo!

Ray Brown is the Goat!
Can't do Stanley Clarke, but then nobody can, that's why he's The G.O.A.T.
I learned the upright in college, and it really influenced my technique. I use a lot of what I learned on the fretless , now.
