The JCM800 is not the best amp Marshall makes.

I just forgo the jcm800 part say I have a 4010. It's up there with saying you have a plexi for vagueness.
Hats is a great alnum….never seen anyone who has even heard of it!!!!!
What about the JCM 800 Model 2000 250 watt bad boy?
2555 with the. AV/BV is the best, quit effing around
But if I say I have a JCM 800 series . Then specify which one . I can do that
I think I knew this but you reminded me really made me remember exactly that you need the right one I think it's the 1987 that I'm wanting but I need an effects loop on it
Same with calling a phone a Android.
The 2203 is not a jcm800, it’s a jmp. My 1977 jmp says MV 2203
I’ve been playing on the same 2203 since the late 80’s when it was purchased new. Absolute workhorse of an amp, imitated but never surpassed in my opinion. That plus the VOX AC30 are all I need for amps????????????????
The jcm800 2203 and 04 are the last ones they made using all tube circuitry the 900 and up uses diode clipping. My opinion the 800 s were the best for pure tube tone for some different genres of music sure anything can work.
The 1987x or 1959 is NOT part of the JCM series period. Totally different.
The 1987 is not a JCM .
Now if we could only get "everyone" to understand what a Plexi actually is!
I Have a Chevy
.. lol
Okay,..The Marshall JCM 800 (2203) is the 2nd best amplifier.
The 1987X Marshall 50w "Plexi" also nicknamed the "small-box" is THE best.
Yup found out way to late.. but I bought the Uad 2203 , sounds close enough
Vintage Modern ftw
they vary a ton, largely in the amount of available gain. I have a 2204 and it is lovely but doesn't have the gain that some of these 800's have. Most of those "classic 800 tones" that people are chasing on their favorite recordings were either modded or boosted with an overdrive pedal
The early British anps were essentially American circtuits with British valves and other components as alot of the American parts and tubes were just not available in the U.K .
The Vox AC30 was apparently based on an Ampeg circuit.
(Disclaimer: I own Engl & EVH heads) I'm convinced the main reason why Marshalls are loved is less about tone (compared to other modern tube amp brands today) and more about what the Brand represents… and the role they played in rockin roll history.. No other amp brand has as much lore around it. You can dial in very similar tone on other amps and maybe only .01% of the population could tell the difference
I have had it with Marshall's naming conventions…… I now play a 5150 mk3
the 1959 and 1987 are also considered JCM800s? I did not know that
yehhhh ok… but at least it's more accurate than saying 'plexi'
I have never been this triggered by another musician….the jcm 800 certainly had a couple variations was objectively not any of those other amps he mentioned. a 1959/1987 is a specific model/circuit and NOT and 800. Also the 800 has never been out of production so I don't know what he's talking about 1990….
True. There are many models in the JCM range of fine tube amplifiers. I never owned a JCM, but I do own a '79 JMP 2203 head and matching 412 slant cab that I bought in 1993, and I won't trade it or sell it for anything!
2205 50 watt lead. There, solved.
If you say, "I have a JCM800" I expect that you're talking about a 2203 or 2204. I'm immediately thinking about the "heads" I've owned and used for the last 5 decades. I will drill down after that. I grew up just outside Toronto. So I'll ask if it's a metal toggle switch or Plastic. Then I'll ask what year and if it's got EL34 power tubes. These are the questions I have that lead me to the amps I know and I'm confident that they will be a good starting point to capturing the "sound" I'm looking for in a Marshall. Other things are less important to me. I tend to favor the 50w 2204 over the 100w 2203. No particular comment here on which is actually better between the two it's simply my preference. I also don't much care about vertical vs horizontal inputs. People swear it makes a difference in the 2203s they've played but I happen to own 3 heads. An '81 and '83 both with the vertical inputs and an '87 with horizontal inputs. All use the same tubes right now and all the 3 sound too similar to say one is consistently better than the other two. Each is far more affected by the many tube swaps each has seen over the years and re-bias that comes with that.
truth
800 rules
Good point. Although I think that when most people say "JCM 800" they are referring to the 2203 or 2204 models. But I get what you're saying.
My brand new reissue 2024 JCM 900 4100 is the best Marshall period! Better than all my old plexis and 800's.
I have the 2205!!! Schenker rules!!!
All of them are built on the same circuit – I get what you're sayin, but they don't sound THAT different
Way to state the obvious
Nah…the 2203 ain't no Crate…????
