Great amp.
If you like this, check out the Marshall JVM Satriani model or a good Splawn Nitro or Quickrod.
The Splawns are even better than this in tone and feel.
In comparison, a Splawn will feel a lot better under your finders compared to a JVM or DSL.
I have the little brother 205 and have been very impressed with the sounds I’m getting from it. So versatile and easy to program. Live the midi funtion too
Are you using a secret noise gate?? I've got the JVM410C and OD 1 Red w/gain at 2 o'clock and well, with a bit of volume thats hissy and on the verge of breaking out into uncontrollable screech. You can get away with those gain levels if a bit further away from the amp….gigging with mine I can't get past 12 o'clock OD1 orange or the amp will just wanna go into too much noise to make it useful and controllable (i'm talking on small stages where you're close to the amp!). Great sound but a noisy beast….totally get why Satriani had to get his modded with a noise gate (internally added). Lately i've been gigging my DSL50 instead for those very reasons (plus its a bit better tonally IMO).
Is that where you normally set those particular drive pedals?
Wow, sounds great!
Great demo. The sounds you got out of the clean channel alone are impressive.
Best JVM410 test ever.
Od 1 orange mode sounds the best. Red mode is mushy. Is there some Marshall which simpliy sounds like orange mode on this one?
Tonally, how would you compare it to the Vintage Modern?
Satriani JCM800 Orange mode is slightly different to the re-issue JCM 2203x in the mids (SLIGHTLY) but it does sounds like a real deal jcm800.
THe original JVM is not something you will compare to a real JCM800 if you like the 800 (imho) or a plexi (imho).. they don't both sound raw organic tube ballsy jcm800 or brash plexi ( real plexi can cut your head off so can the satch).
The Green mode on satch's amp – i like more than any jtm/plexi i have ever played. I like the gain sweep a lot, and i always gravitate to wanting a little more gain than that mode anyways through the course of playing so it's cool to slide into low gain 800!!
clean on JVM is better than clean on Satch's amp.. because for some reason the green clean on Satch's amp is the flattest sounding marshall i have ever heard. It is uninspiring 100% compared to the orignal JVM. I am not sure why he made it that flat sounding, but that had to be intentional.
The compression on the OG JVM is cool, it sounds great, but it makes it sound HI-FI and not like the amps it sounds like it's modeling theml.. sounds good.. but isn't a plexi or jcm.
The noise is way to much on the OG JVM OD channels you need a noisegate for sure and have to tighten and gate it up pretty good, but it has more compression which makes bad playing sound better, thant he organic open Satch OD channels…(imho).
The red mode on Satch's amp sounds like a a modded marshall JCM800 from the 80's, idk which one they modeled it after, but sounds like it's for recording.. (i don't record). it has a sort of higher mid aggressive sound. So that's subjective as to whether somebody records (I don't) or just likes that late 80's early 90's modded 800 thing it's kind of too aggressive in the high mids for me.. (maybe they modded them that way to record, again idk anything about recording amps)
If I already owned a jtm/plexi AND jcm800 SURE, i agree no need to buy the Satch amp i agree with a commenter bellow. (even though it's gates are awesome, and the OD is open unlike the OG jVM)… i'd probably been content with a plexi and jcm800.
But no single marshall does BOTH. You either have a jtm/plexi or you have an 800 in a single amp. THe satch has BOTH in one box.
Again if you are a PURIST for 800 sound.. the re-issue has a slight eq different to the Satch oragne (doesn't sound hifi like the og jvm, doesn't lack balls) just a slight difference i can notice in the mids on the CH2 orange on the satch.
No marshall does both.. except the Satriani JVM…. that I know of. The extra red mode, and more gain channels you may not care for anyways.
In closing after long review.. THE OG JVM is awesome, it just doesn't sound like a Real Plexi or JCM800.
It's a shame Satriani didn't fully take JVM off the name of his amp, as it's a organic ballsy, tube sounding music box… for those who want the rough edges that the plexi and jcm800 have!!!
JVM sounds pleasant, but not authentic. Satch sounds absolutely marshall… with that aforementioned SLIGHT mid different in the orange mode (which is an 800). Love all amps mentioned.
For modern metal i'd get a mark series, savage mk II or 5150 though!!!! Just my opinion. I know modern metal "tone" isn't coveted or a beautiful sound (it's the riff, and notes you play), but if your going for a modern metal sound (needed for the riffs to shine), skip marshall 100%!!!!!!!!!
Marshall does Megadeth and Metallic back through all the hard rock, 80's, 70's and 60's etc.) It does not do forward well haha I love Marshall but djent or death metal is not it's game imho!!!!
I had this amp and it was a hiss monster
One of the best amps of all time. A monster, and versatile.
Great Demo ????????
I love all the classic Marshalls, but if someone asked me to recommend one it would be the JVM 410. If you can’t get a good tone from this amp regardless of your musical style, give up!
Kiss of death! My favourite riff since decades, never learned the solo of the song but started now.
Great video. I’m a very eclectic. Composer.(Rock, Hard Rock, Blues, Latin, Punk, Funk, Ballads, and more) so when my band performs, I need a very versatile amplifier. I’ve had the JVM 410 H for about 10 years now. It can cover all the bases. My Drummer says to me. “man, it’s impossible to get any better tone than that.”
ohh, i heard aldo nova, great sound, i also have the jvm 205, for me the best marshall amp
The Bonus tip nailed the whole amp!
Amazing!
Your videos show proper Marshall Tones!
Thanks!
Yeah Bad ass amp . Each channel Revs the Harmonics up and Higher ! The amp must have the foot board ..Chunk Chunk ???? Set master and play thought the Channels !!!
I have quite a few amps, it really has its own character plus a huge amount of gain. I didn't know about the "plexi mode" on the OD2 channel and it was a useful and interesting tip, however my biggest disappointment was the crunch channel which doesn't sound like the JCM 800 (and I own one of these) despite the hype.
I've experimented with loads of amps over the years, always selling them. Then I played a JVM in 2015 and never looked back. I've had loads of amps since as well, Soldano, EVH, Friedman, Blackstar and sold all those. The only one that keeps delivering is my JVM. Best amp I've ever had.
I love my JVM410H! I think this is the best sound of this amp on youtube. What a nice playthrough. I own a 1936 cab with 2 g12 t75…these gt12evh sounds way better…very nice review, man. Hugs from Brazil.
I have a 2014 model and it is hands down the most versatile amp on the planet!
I would not even take a Jubilee over my 410, the tones are in their, I had several BE Friedman's, still love my 410 better, I play the living crap out of that amp, I was using it through a 1960 4-10 cab with greenbacks, but I switched to a 2-12 1936 lead cab and holy crap the thump you get out of that set up is incredible, great video it's awesome to hear the excitement of other Marshall user's.
For 40 years I have avoided Marshall for some reason. I really dig this amp. Great demo. Subscribed.
hit the like button commercials only makes me hit fast forward…
I have the JVM 1 watt combo from the Marshall 50th anniversary series. Made in Britain and have used it daily since 2012. Same tubes flawless and awesome
They're brilliant. I had the combo once, sold it, and was too heavy. Had the head and used it five years ago, and had to sell it due to fake lockdowns and lack of money. I was gutted!
Mine were super reliable too. When the valves needed replacing in the head, it just began to lose output gradually but didn't crap out on me.
My rig setup is just a Marshall JVM410H with a 1960a cab with a true bypass tuner to the guitar. That's all I need for playing. Sure it takes pedals well, but I love the sound of the amp so much that I prefer to stay minimum on pedals.
Great video, great playing. Amp does everything you need. Marshalls always takes pedals well too!!!
Nice playing! I’m still not sure why the Marshalls after the 80s get no love. The JVM is awesome – so is the TSL which is another under appreciated amp! I have the TSK, JVM, Friedman, boogie, the whole shebang and I honestly like my JVM best…. The Friedman is awesome don’t get me wrong but the JVM just wins for pure flexibility!
This is so complicated.
When you first started with les paul it sounded like Lack Of Communication tone
That brown tone at 5:30 is the truth!
Didnt know. Thanks for the vid. Sounds great.
Lol i have the same “no name” cab. You don’t have to lie though. The line 6 logo is easy to remove. But we know man.
Again, i have the same cab, and did the same thing. But I’m honest about it
The Epi with the Aldrich set also sounds great.
I had a 410 for a couple of years,I just never bonded with it..too soft and compressed, not a bad amp, just wasn’t my cup of tea..The 6100 for me is a better sounding amp…You make the JVM sound great though..Rock on!!
