About Spectre Sound Studios:
I’m Glenn Fricker, engineer here at Spectre Sound Studios. I love making records, and after doing it for sixteen years, I want to pass on what I’ve learned. On my channel you can find tutorials on how to record guitar, bass, real drums and vocals. There’s reviews and demos of tube amps, amp sims, drums, mics, preamps, outboard gear, Electric Guitar, Bass Guitar, and plugin effects.
We’ve covered Moon on the Water, played Bias FX, given you the absolute best in Stupid Musician Texts, ranted & raved about bass guitar, and this channel is where The Eagle has Landed.
Everything you’ve wanted to learn about recording Hard Rock & Heavy Metal can be found right here on this channel!

I also respond to your comments & questions: The best make it into the SMG Viewer’s Comments series of videos. Loads of fun, lots of laughs.

    The one in the middle was the guitar; before and after were two muffled pieces of junk.
    The "crunch" was made by the amplifier.

    I guess i'm late, but without checking the answer, just for the record, in the order i think:
    1. clean: 335, strat, prs
    2. crunch: strat, prs, 335

    Clean: PRS, vintage single, 335
    Cronch: single, prs, 335

    But most of all, I hear a guitarist who is used to higher tension strings 🙂

    Clean I'm going with 1. PRS 2. Strat 3. 335
    Crunch sounds like 1. Strat 2.PRS 3. 335
    But if you're using coil taps on the PRS or neck/middle pickups on the strat could be anything really.

    1. ES-335 2. Strat 3. PRS

    1. Strat 2.ES-335 3. PRS
    The strat was easy to tell, but not sure which of the two others had more bottom end

    Hi Glenn,
    my guesses…
    clean_1 = PRS, clean_2 = strat, clean_3 = hollowbody.
    crunch_1 = strat, crunch_2 = PRS, crunch_3 = hollowbody.
    But they do sound very similar, surprisingly. So, can you play metal on a single-coil strat or on a hollowbody? 🙂

    First take: PRS, strat, hollowbody
    2nd: strat, PRS, hollowbody

    I think the easiest to pick is the Strat because of the single coils?
    Clean tones: ES / Strat / PRS
    Crunch tones: Strat / ES / PRS (really hard to hear any difference on the latter two.)

    Fun short video.

    In cleans, 1. PRS 2. Strat 3. Gibson. 2nd is clearly has strat twang doing on. Haven't played PRS or ESS so 1st and 3rd goes a bit into guess work but 3rd sounds kinda mellow with smooth high-end and slower attack and release than 1st which has which has more direct sound, in a bit same way as 2nd.
    In breakup, 1. Strat 2. PRS 3. Gibson. This time 1st had the strat twang and 2nd is darker than 1st with a bit LP-esque sound but still has faster attack and release (sound died instantly when string was muted) than 3rd which still had that short the low-mid roll-off after string was muted.
