  • Phil said that before Chinatown he went to see ZZ Top and that he was blasted,so he ripped off everything he liked, the influence is obvious, for me Chinatown is far better then 11th place n two stars

  • Interesting to have a view from somebody not quite so steeped in the history and culture of the band. I think you called the two best songs correctly, among some quite eccentric selections, and I would switch the order of the top two albums, just because of Black Rose's sonic superiority. I think the weedy production lets down the songs on Nightlife, and I would boost Vagabonds to number 3 at least. I think Lynott's lyricism may be at its peak on that one. I agree about Chinatown, it's a difficult listen for me, and Thunder and Lightning is a bit too heavy metal. I think the band's strength was in its diversity, but that sometimes didn't convince fans who wanted music to fit to a specific genre.

  • Chinatown is my very favorite! I find they're at their best when their back is against the wall, not just when every hair is in place and they're at the top of their game. And I am not the only one! Everyone's fandom is different. I got the two disc RSD 2020 version of Chinatown with an LP of demos and they're really cool. I think Jailbreak is great, but it's overrated. I find Johnny the Fox to be the weaker link, and their early work is extremely hit or miss for me.

  • I love Thin Lizzy but I would have swapped the positions of Black Rose and Jail Break. But all in all great list thank you. Long live LIZZY.

Before starting my own Thin Lizzy experience, I only knew several of their hits, one of which was the very first single that I ever purchased: ‘Rosalie’ (I wasn’t aware that it was a cover)… I had never even heard a ‘Best Of’ or a Greatest Hits’, so this was all new, but! My expectations were high… Apart from ‘Thunder And Lightning’ I really enjoyed Thin Lizzy, even some of the heavier cuts, a form of music that generally turns me off, did please me… ‘T & L’ is too 80’s hair metal and unfortunately I hated it… Other than ‘T&L’, even lowest ranked albums have little to dislike…
