@AdamLevyGuitarTips is one of my favorite guitar players alive today, his feel and tone are some of the best out there, and his amazing 1964 ES-335 is a big part of his sound. In today’s video we talk about Adam’s guitar and why he loves it so much.

  • Two dudes sitting uncomfortably close making toilets faces. Classic intro. Oh, great playing too

  • Its like he has a lofi pedal built into the guitar. I'm sure he's a monster player but one of the few times I didn't really dig the playing. Beautiful guitar though!

  • I was lucky enough to find a used CS '64 335 for a great price. Looks just like that one and is the overall nicest guitar I've ever owned or played.

  • Is the ES-335 a more versatile guitar than a Les Paul? I definitely think ES-335 is a sweet sounding guitar but I like the size of the Les Paul more.

  • The feel in Adam’s playing is sooo sweet – I would love to take lessons from him one day.

  • Adam is one of the tastiest guitar players in the land and a great educator. And one of the nicest guys.

  • That was sublime, but both of those 335 sounded great. I don't like to fetish vintage guitars as the key to great sound, but man it was really, really beautiful

  • I love that type of videos, just pleasure to watch. And the vibe in that studio + video production is top notch, 3:08 for example, just like wallpaper, art, however you wanna call it

  • Must be something special about the 64. Justin Hayward of the Moody Blues also has a 64 from what I understand, cherry red. His was my first intro to the model. Then I started learning about who session players were and their contribution to the music I listened too. That's how I found out who Larry Carlton is and the line of Sire guitars with his name on them. I now have a black Sire H7V leftie on order which is a variant brand of the 335. Not sure why I'm putting this out there for the world to read. Boredum.

  • Rhett, this is one of your best videos yet! Could listen for hours to you and Adam jamming – that soul-full, melancholy expression of these 335's is just beautiful to the ears. Thanks so much for posting this!

  • These guys should play one of the Collings I35 (LC). I am very confident that they both would be very surprised/impressed/overwhelmed!

  • Thanks for great playing ! It´s very intersting to hear you guys swapping guitars…there´s only a tiny difference in sound… but Rhett has still his more "brighter" tone on the ´64 and Adam has his "warm and rounded" tone on Rhett´s guitar. PS I´m very lucky to own two 335s from ´66 and ´67 i got around `84 for then $500 each and kept them both through good and bad times untill today !!!

  • This reminds me of my search for a 335 in the early eighties (Carlton, Rios, Ritenour were my heroes back then). I traveled through half of Europe, everything I played was crap, including 50s and early 60s.
Funnily enough, I stumbled across a Les Paul on my search (81 Heritage Standard 80), which then carried me through my time as a studio musician (with my Strat and Tele).
I'm still looking for 335s, but to this day there hasn't been one that has inspired me. Maybe not my model.

  • There is a lot a fuss about vintage guitars I have one, however my £300 ephiphone 335 sounds as good as these in this video if not better.

  • Back in the day they didn't measure pickups and put the hotter one in the bridge position. They just grabbed one out of the parts bin and soldered it in.

  • I agree it would be a great move for them- since they seem to be declining in popularity over the last couple years. And that's not a slice at Gibson- it just what I've noticed on social media sites- ppl seem to love to hate Gibson lately. That said- I already know it would be priced out of my reach if they made it so- I'm not exactly going to get excited about it either way. And I'm not singling Gibson out really- Fender does the same thing- super expensive stuff no one but lawyers, doctors, and professional musicians who have already made their name can afford. That said- at least Fender also does some stuff I can afford- that's good gear. Everything Gibson makes is out of my reach- if they made a paper weight, it would be collectible and therefore- expensive. They're like Martin- no budget stuff at all- well, that's not technically true of Martin now I guess, but have you heard their budget stuff? Not impressive at all imo- and barely cheap enough to be considered budget.

  • WoW! Makes me want to get right back on my 335 ASAP. Great to hear the tonal blends played with such charisma!????

  • What a beautiful guitar that is. In the hands of Adam it absolutely sings. Also, that Tone King is a killer amp. The experience level of both guitars shines through in the way they work together. Well done.

  • Man this will definitely go down as a classic video on your channel in my book. Will definitely be revisiting this video in the future. Great content, thanks Rhett.

  • Gibson is dead – they won't and can't build guitars like 60 years ago – they are a "lifestyle brand" not a guitar manufacture anymore –

  • That tone Adam gets from that guitar is exquisite. It’s pretty much perfect. And his playing is excellent too – never a wasted note, thanks for posting Rhett

  • 335s are amazing. I love my big neck 58 burst and fast neck 61 blonde CS reissues. They’re really so versatile but benefit from a high headroom, dynamic amp.
