  • Westone thunder jet bass and trace elliott.
Brilliant and very underrated, unique and individual bassist unlike all the clones these days!

  • I’m thinking maybe either tremolo picking or like slap bass. So basically I’m thinking if you like hit the side of your thumb on the string then twist ur wrist so a different finger hits the sting and repeat it. I haven’t tried it yet but see how it goes ????????????????

  • I came across another song that does a similar trick in the bass part! Carlotta Valdez by Harvey Danger (one hit wonder responsible for Flagpole Sitta), but the bassist died in 2016, and the guy doesn’t even have a wikipedia page. So at least one other person has figured out how to do it, only problem is he took it to his grave

  • 1 time in New York, I got up on stage with a loaned bass, had to borrow a strap, cables, the lights went off,I was ready! Except for a pick! Reached in my pants pocket where I Should've had a pick, felt a pick, pulled it out to play, it was a US quarter coin! Played the show like that,it was Great!

  • Picking right on top of the bridge saddle while pre-bending the string behind the nut.
If I had to guess… if not I’d say it was a platypus mid convulsion

  • Sounds like a Les Claypool trick (not saying he created it. He just uses it). It sounds like the string is being muted with the fretting hand and palm muted, while tremolo picking near the neck pickup. If you slide your fretting hand up and down the neck, the pitch changes and it's especially cool when you do it over a natural harmonic fret.

I could be way off but if you get a chance to hear Primus cover NIB (it's on an album where a lot of bands cover Ozzy tunes), he does a similar thing with a regular pick during the opening solo.

It's a killer solo (I learned it and it impresses pretty much everyone… until I'm like 'tha-..uh thats all I can play. ????????) and, while I could be wrong, that's how I get a similar sound. ????

    Hope that helps.
