  • Hey Jens, thanks for another great video, i love your examples and explanation,
But I have to say, having watched it I still don't really understand how to do this exercise… Maybe I'm too much of an amateur, but all this jazz terminology doesn't really sound like an instruction to me.
So I Would be grateful if for one of the next ones you would also give the tab transcriprion of the exercise itself that one could just play time and time again for hours

  • Great stuff, as always! I haven't peaked ahead, but I am hoping the Jazz Roadmap gets into enclosures. Cheers!

  • This lesson in Gold Jens!
As an amateur hack who has been listening to jazz for decades, it’s great to have this broken down so I can understand why I like BeBop so much. I didn’t say I could play it good, but just understanding why it sounds so great is half my battle! ????????

  • I thought enclosures were just something i need to practice more as another trick in the bag, but this opens up a whole big can of candied popcorn! Very enlightening 10 minutes indeed. Thanks!

  • Does the same idea (diatonic above, chromatic below) apply over tones of chords other than the tonic? E.g. over Dm7 (the ii) you target D with E -> C# -> D?

  • Thanks for the "stupid" exercise!

So wonderfully stupid that even I understand it! Thanks Jens

  • This is super helpful. The idea of thinking triads and then adding change of direction in places OTHER than the downbeats, using simple enclosures, and mixing that with diatonic and chromatic lines feels like a way I can organize all this in my head and spend more time feeling the music than trying to "keep up" note by note. Thanks so much for this short but invaluable lesson!

  • Thanks a lot for this yet another amazing lesson.
Thanks to this video, I realized that these enclosures actually are the basis of the whole melody in April in Paris!

  • Brilliant lesson! Thank you for posting this and explaining the purpose of enclosures and how these can be added to triads, along with trills to make a melodic lick. Loved it!
