Thoughts on the Evertune Guitar Bridge | Unsponsored Guitar Discussion Review

This is a discussion on the Evertune bridge. Does it work? Is it worth it? This video reviews my experiences with the Evertune bridge for 6 and 7 string guitars and summarizes my thoughts in general.

The Evertune bridge is an awesome mechanical system. While it does have its drawbacks, I thoroughly enjoy the advantages it offers. Tuning stability is especially important for recording purposes. I am not sponsored by Evertune or any of the brand shown in this video.

00:17 Not sponsored

Ease of Setup
00:44 One tool for setting up and tuning Evertune
00:57 Mechanical components can get stuck and how to fix
01:17 Experience over owning many guitars with an Evertune

Does it work?
01:26 The Evertune isn’t magic but it works, it’s a mechanical system
01:51 How to fix the Evertune if it gets stuck
02:26 No tone block with springs means slight loss of sustain

Tuning Stability
02:53 Tuning stability valuable for distorted tones
03:03 Evertune will stop pitch drift
03:20 More complex chords beyond power chords with distortion
03:51 Staying in tune is good for recording

Playability
04:11 String tension and the bend zone
05:17 Increased tension makes bends and vibrato more difficult
06:04 Beneficial for keeping extended range guitars in tune
06:45 Staying in tune prevents acoustic beating
07:17 Playability affected if you frequently use techniques that fight string tension

Would I Recommend the Evertune?
07:34 Would I prefer this over all other bridges?
07:58 I would recommend this bridge
08:11 Why I recommend the Evertune – hearing if you’re in tune and not spending time tuning
09:09 Benefits in a live performance environment
09:58 Reasons why I would not recommend the Evertune bridge
10:30 Alternative bridge for maximum sustain
10:49 7 string version has more sustain
10:59 Staying in tune is worth it
11:22 Does the Evertune rob the tone of the guitar?

Overall
12:30 Overall this bridge is useful

  • I have an evertune on my 7 string. It works great. But. It’s not for blues based guitar. It will impact your vibrato. It also adds good deal of weight to your guitar.

  • Been a Floyd rose fan forever, picked up an evertune equipped guitar few years back. Thoughts, evertune system makes the guitar heavy, when you bend a note it’s not as natural as a Floyd or hardtail (slower to react?), sustain is definitely not as pronounced, tone robbing? No idea I am on the red channel of an EVH stealth with that much distortion it’s not noticeable ???? You nailed all the positives of this bridge.

  • I see that you got a new abasi Larada 8. When are you gonna do a video on that? Really stoked about that

  • Thanks for the detailed insights. I've looked at the Cort KX707 and would love to try it sometime. This will help me to assess when I get the chance to do so.

  • I have an evertune on one of my guitars and love it. I have the bridge tuned to Drop D but then tune it up to standard. It allows you to swap between tunings without using the key.

  • i should really commit and try out an evertune bridge, they sound almost too good to be true in the context of recording. it seems like it would be a dream for recording consistency on heavy rhythm sections. I have a friend who can't stand them, something about how they feel on his hand but I've never tried one myself. have you noticed any sort of 'feel' that's markedly different than a floyd/edge system?

  • Hey man great video. I'm currently looking into an evertune model that comes in d standard from the factory. It has a 26.5 scale length so if I put it in e standard and tune it up to edge of zone 3, I believe the tension will be even more than what you've described, right?
Also, if the guitar is in bend mode does that mean you essentially lose the evertune functionality? It will probably hold the tuning through small handling disturbances etc. but being close to zone 3, there is a chance that it gets bent out of zone 2 and you'll have to retune and at that point it's not much different than a fixed bridge.

  • Thanks for this video, nice in depth video of the evertune. You brought more info than other videos only showing us the 3 zones.
Interesting that you gave honest opinion on the sustain of this bridge too.

  • It was great to learn about another bridge system, and a great choice of a guitar– it's beautiful!

  • Based on your cons, I'm pretty relieved I didn't impulse buy a Solar with an Evertune. It doesn't seem ideal for what I'm playing, and I'd definitely want to try one out in-store before committing.

By the way, are you still loving the Ibanez RG5320? I'm vacillating between that and the RG5440C. I know you had some issues with the latter, but an HSS Prestige is really tempting. Or maybe even a Prestige S series, though it doesn't have stainless steel frets. Which of those three would you recommend for someone who plays more lead than rhythm? They're all about the same price here.
