  • what I love about this version of Zeus is that while he speaks softly and smiles, you can sense something sadistic under all of it.

  • The singers in the epic do such a great job.

The siren playing Penelope, zues, posiden, so much is just fantastic.

  • Neil's body type for these dude's gives me flashbacks to the Rescue Hero toys I had as a kid, just the widest shoulders imaginable

  • Agreed, Joe Hisaishi is an amazing composer, pianist, and conductor. His music is just stunning, on par with John Williams.

  • I really like that zeus really never gets very amped up. Like, his voice is always steady, calm, sometimes with a bit of power behind it, but never emotional. To him, this is a game and he knows that he'll win no matter what

  • I also like to interpret that Eury gave up trying to retaliate for two reasons.

One, clearly all the past experiences showed that trying to defy a God’s will is almost impossible. If Zeus promises that the entire crew will die and Ody will be left alive, that’s how’s it’s going to be. In the few times they avoided death, it was through Ody’s cunning and wit. In this situation, there’s no way out without Ody’s support.

Second, for all his potential resentment on Ody sacrificing the entire crew at this point, multiple times Eury has directly jeopardized the crew’s safety or voiced abandoning members for self preservation as well. Opening the wind bag, asking to leave their enchanted comrades on Circe’s island, slaying the sun god’s cows (and knowing it may lead to consequences) all shows he’s just as reckless and self focused as Odysseus.

  • 13:25 furious Excuse me? at the first saga, they have been at war for 10 years, and he has kept ALL 600 of his men alive. In saga 2, he is so upset by losing his first men. In the circe saga, he refuses to leave men behind. And I see your video on Mutiny, so you should know that. Sacrificing his men is new, which is partially why Eurylochus confronts Odysseus.

  • I wonder if you'd be interested in analyzing Ironmouse's voice. She had been studying to be a coloratura soprano, but then her immune system condition worsened to the point that she had to drop out. Though her voice is bizarrely high due to an infection damaging her vocal folds, she has become accustomed to singing in this range, and with some effort she can reach lower notes. Ironmouse is a pink-haired VTuber originally from Puerto Rico.

  • After the fist video – I'm like wait til he gets to Thunder Bringer. I'm like – he's gonna want to sing that lol

  • Eurylochus's face as the men charge past him is soooooo good… Just pain and anger mixed with a pinch of salty acceptance; after all, he betrayed Odysseus first, right? Its only natural to have the knife twosted back around.

  • Not sure if you've reacted to any hadestown- I'm going to have to scour the channel because i NEED to see your reaction to Hades's voice

  • The guitar plays the same tune as the tune that plays from 'My Goodbye' when Athena leaves Odysseus! It gives the air that Athena isn't there to intervene and give Ody her backup

  • I love that you are getting so into it, your facial expressions show you feeling the godly power????

  • The part that bothers me about this song is the crew expecting Odysseus to sacrifice himself for them after his crew stabbed him, Mutinied, tied him up, his best friend admitting that he was the one who opened the wind bag, and killed the sacred cow even after Odysseus specificly warned them that it would get them all killed! They act like he is a horrible person for choosing to save himself, but even if he isnt the best person, why in the world would he sacrifice himelf for a crew that literally just betrayed him, and had admitted to betraying him before?? ????

  • lol I love the editing in this video, I don’t know if there’s editors or if it’s all the same person but the conversations are fun

  • The song is actually a metaphor about Odysseus’ pride and foreshadowing to something in the Vengeance Saga but that’s all lll say for spoiler reasons ❤

  • Also, someone might have mentioned it but still, Eurylochus in the original myths/the Odyssey is Odysseus' literal brother-in-law. He was married to Ody's sister

  • "sacrifice yourself to save the crew?"
Well, here's the thing. Tiresias said Ody will get home. It's as set in stone as greek prophecy gets, and even Zeus doesn't have a lot of sway there. Ody dying here was never an option, I think. He was also the only one to oppose eating the cows, the crime lies solely on the crew for this particular screw up. They'd have been dead either way, I think. The only difference that could have been made is, had Odysseus thought more properly, which I don't think he was in any headspace to do, seeing as the last time he had seen zeus it was pretty traumatic (having to yeet a baby off a wall) + zeus absolutely would manipulate and pressure ody into making the choice of sacrificing the crew (Penelope in this animatic is very zeus colored), but had Odysseus though it through, he could have denied needing to make a choice at all. Zeus can't kill him. The crew would still get smote, almost guaranteed, but at least Odysseus wouldn't have been saddled with that weight on his conscience. Or at least, not quite as much weight.

  • Neal Illustrator's character design for the gods is unmatched. I highly recommend seeing all of their animatics for Epic, especially God Games. They're also currently working on "Get in the water AND 600 strike" It's going to be incredible!!

  • Actually no Zeus's lightning ball is a actual real world phenomenon which can be extremely destructive and destroy buildings if you are unlucky

  • 1:46 Gotta give Jorge props here.
He puts a LOT of thought into the musical composition. Every character has something unique to their music, something unique to them.
Just to list a few I remember him mentioning, feel free to reply with others.
Zeus gets electric guitar and drums, cause god of thunder and well, thunder and lightning.
    Polites gets marimba.
Penelope gets viola I believe (unsure).
Eurylochus is always backed by the crew vocally.
Odysseus’ instrument changes based on his emotion.

Point is, Jorge puts an immense amount of thought into the instruments he’s using for each character. Down to the fact that Poseidon’s songs all have crashing waves in the background the entire song. Man has been a nerd over his own musical composition a lot, pointing out all the hidden details and effort.

  • Zeus: Problematic lyrics and generally being a jerk.
Greek lit fans: Yep. That's Zeus.

  • My only critiques about this animation is that when Ody makes the choice, the way his face is animated makes him seem apathetic/uncaring and almost smug after saying "I know." which doesn't line up at all with the way Jay says it. And the fact that they are on land instead of on the ship where they ended on the previous song :/

Not to say that Neal isn't a fantastic animator, because they totally are and I adore their God Games animatic, but truly the only things about the animatic that I would have made a different choice visually.

  • Yessss please do talk more about vocal ranges and things of that nature. I know next to nothing about them and how you point out the different notes and explain things makes it all really understandable!

  • Last I heard, Luke Holt isn't a Bass singer! He has more of a mid-range, and his speaking voice is far from the front for Zeus! Jorge helped him lower it for Zeus' character!
