  • Hour and a half talking to Ed Friedland?
You're almost making me impatient to get to work tomorrow, so I can sit and listen.

  • wow, Ed Friedland, he had this "Bass Whisperer" channel decades ago where he reviewed all sorts of basses. I remember when I played one of those videos through a huge 5.1 speaker system and the deep low growl of the bass tone destroyed everyone in sight!

  • One great bassist and instructor interviewing another great bassist and educator!!! Yup, the vast majority of the people that I know who attended Berkeley didn't graduate and they had successful musical careers! Bass Player Magazine WAS a great magazine until the new ownership changed the format and lost me as a subscriber! Thank you for ANOTHER great real-world perspectives interview!

  • I'm kind of shocked that there's not a solo section for you in a Mavericks show. I mean, it's not necessary, but it would be nice for the musicians in the audience.
I applaud you for your "working man bassist" attitude. You're the best!

  • I guess it depends on the music and style ! There’s room for a bass player to support , and there’s room for chops and creativity and improv ! Depends on what is needed ! Like someone said it’s better to have a variety of technical skills and not need them , than need them and not have them ! I

  • I see so many players shredding on social media
But I don’t see them fitting into a band / live setting like tapping good luck pulling that off in a live setting with a loud drummer the greatest bass players are the ones you don’t even notice like Tommy Shannon pure groove and pocket
