You forgot a ton of compression
The EBS OCTABASS is recommended by Tony Levin.
You need a Stingray or a similar bass for that.
You lost me at the HPF on the send in the chorus. What does that mean? ????????
That bass you show at the beginning is awesome. A three of a perfect pair stingray with a tremolo, that's one of a kind right there
Just watched Rick’s video w Tony levin and he explains that he actually used sticks and had Steve gadd drumming on his bass while he held it and played the fingerings for the notes on his left hand. Apparently they were trying weird stuff cause they were all tight w Gabriel. How cool is that!
Tony Levin.
It's what you become after you turn it up from Tone Ten.
I wore this album out in '89 (took three years to get with it, for some reason.)
Not to mention, that Stingray sound is integral to his tone. Especially considering the on board active EQ.
Are you sure it's a chorus? It sounds more like a flange to me ???? could be wrong, though. I'm not used to how effects sound on bass.
The strings were roundwounds, not flatwounds. Beyond Tony’s great concept and execution, one of the most impressive feats of this recording is how they got the Boss OC-2 pedal to track so well. I’ve read that the signal went through two sequential compressors to get the Boss to track without errors.
Im not convinced those were flat wound strings. Listen to the mutted hand slide right before he starts playing.
But does it djent?
What song is this?
Tony is the GOAT.
You left out the plastic bag thing, like a diaper, he put under the strings; he talked about it in an inter view recently.
The string noise when he slides makes me think he was using round wounds on that fretless instead of flats. Some people do use rounds on fretless basses it's certainly not impossible that he was also
Not bass……BEHS!!!!
One thing missing. PG himself once commented Tony put a nappy under the strings
Could be FUNK FINGERS
Really bizarre irony that arguably his most famous bass line was played with a pick. I don't even know what he looks like using one.
Wrong. He uses those finger sticks!!!!!!
That was isolated from sledgehammer? ???? It sounds like something off of Seinfeld
Amazing.
