Trickfish Amplification Unveils the Bullhead 3K Bass Amplifier – No Treble
After unveiling a new line of bass pedals earlier this year, Trickfish Amplification has announced the Bullhead 3K bass amplifier. The company calls it the “pinnacle of our design ethos to create powerful, intuitive, flexible tools to help bassists achieve their creative and sonic goals.”
The powerful amp features a Mike Pope-designed preamp and a four-band switchable EQ. Central to its design is its flexible routing and dual Pacal power amplifiers, which allows for creative signal routing or doubling with a keyboard.
“The 3K’s front and rear inputs feed the dual amplifiers in several intuitive and flexible ways, depending on how you intend to use the amp. They offer two independent or linkable power channels, each delivering 1500w x2 at 8 ohms (2500w at x2 4 ohms). They can be easily configured to run two completely independent rigs side by side or sum the front input to both amplifiers,” Trickfish explains. “The 3K’s front input (Input 1) feeds the iconic Mike Pope-designed Trickfish preamp, which includes our 4-band switchable EQ. The rear input (Input 2) features a separate Gain and Master Volume on the top right of the front panel. With the “Amp 2” switch engaged, Output 2 becomes independent of Output 1, effectively creating two high-powered bass amps in one.”
Another innovative feature on the Bullhead 3K is its Hi Pass and Low Pass filters at the input stage. Each filter provides a 24dB per octave cut above or below their variable frequency. Trickfish says the High Pass is used to tame the low end between 38Hz and 310Hz whereas the Low Pass reduces treble from 15kHz down to 330Hz.
The four-band EQ has Bass, Low Mid, Hi Mid, and Treble knobs with switches to toggle the center frequency of each control. Other features include a Master Volume, a mute, a main speaker output, an amplifier two-speaker output, an effects loop, a tuner output, an aux input, and a direct out XLR.
