Twelve Really Fantastic Reverb Guitar Pedals

Today I’m showing you some of my favorite extraordinary reverbs – verbs that inspire creative new ways to send your signal into the atmosphere. These verbs are not for the faint of heart, but for those brave souls who will venture into uncharted reverberation territory to find new sonic landscapes. In the comments let me know what your favorite reverb pedal and sound I played was, and also any reverbs you have that fit this category and how you use them!

  • Picked up a used Keeley Verb-o-Trem a couple months back. I'm still experimenting with it, and I actually bought it more for the tremolo than the reverb, but it's been a great pedal to toy with

  • what makes offspring is the diffusion in the repeats. qualifying it as a reverb, echoverb is the same way.

  • One album that would sound completely different without reverb is The Unforgettable Fire of U2, more so because it was the first album that used a form of shimmer as invented by the great mister ambient himself Brian Eno.

  • They are all very good I've got most of them but you've forgotten the VERY BEST of them all, the M-Wave Mini Universe and its perfect clone with a much more beautiful space station artwork the Ghost Fire Space Reverb ! Those are really fantastic. I like them so much I've purchased both of them, price is so ridiculous. In Shimmer mode set the 3 param. to the max, play some chords and you'll hear the best shimmer reverb ever ! Most of the presets are also incredible.

  • My first standalone reverb pedal was the Behringer RV-600. Great pedal, but not exactly what I was looking for. Then I found the TC Electronics Hallmof Fame 2 – awesome Reverb pedal, great takes on almost all of the most usable reverb sounds. I then decided to treat myself to something more ambient, and picked up the Walrus Slöer (my Hall of Fame 2 ended up on my daughter’s board) and holy moly… that thing is awesome. Pads, shimmers, anything you could want, and even the Slö’s ability to sustain, and still better yet, can store 3 presets. Amazing machine. I’ve also been playing with all the reverbs and delays included in the HX Stomp. Running that in parallel with the Slöer and the possibilities seem endless!

  • Just give me a basic reverb pedal. I don't want chorus/octave/pitch shift/delay/other B.S. Why do they always turn a reverb pedal into a mini processor?

  • Can you recommend a reverb that does sound good with lots of gain? Nobody seems to review that. I love the reverb in my Peavey amplifier but I can't have it on a foot switch. All the ones I've tried sound metallicy and shitty.

  • I’m a bassist and my main tool has been reverb. I’ve always found ways to layer reverb into a song with adding ambients or noise in the back round to feedback you name it I’ve done it. I started with the line 6 verbzilla in 2007 still love that pedal than turned to the neunaber wet reverb in 2012 in 2021 line 6 came out with the dynamic hall which has been my main big verb and still love it in every way. As of different verbs I’ve been using the fuzzrocious afterlife a killer verb just does it right and has the havoc switch which has been a staple in my songs as of late. Getting the meteore to see if that will replace the afterlife just because it’s similar but does way more.

  • My favorite is the Oceans 12(Electro-Harmonix) and the Avalanche Run(earthquaker devices). Big,big echoes in the caverns of funkiness.

  • The band My Bloody Valentine – with the album Loveless was built on Reverse Reverb and I love it too.

  • Cherry-coloured Funk by Cocteau Twins (it’s no doubt been mentioned up there in the 1k plus comments), but also… the swelling envelope/wah that’s bathed in some kind of lush reverb in Ride’s fairly recent-ish song Weather Diaries (and if someone could take the time to break down how to recreate that on my own board I’d seriously, seriously appreciate it!).

Thank you for doing these videos like you do – just pure class.

  • You're right that the RV-500 covering all of them and much more… I"ve had it for 5 years and still discovering new ways to use it… Biggest bang for the buck reverb, IMO…

  • I am definitely a reverb addict. A small bright room is something I have going always.

  • Can we get a reverb episode with the JHS 3 series reverbs compared? i cannot decide between reverb, hall reverb and octave reverb.
