UAD Lion ’68 Plugin – Boomer Tones with Attitude

NOT buying gear has finally paid off for once 🙂

I’ve been wanting to try the UAFX Lion Pedal for a while now, but I knew it was only a matter of time before they brought these out as plugins. I’m incredibly excited to try this out and see how it holds up against other amp sim companies like NDSP, STL Tones, IK Multimedia, Mixwave, Mercuriall, Softube etc etc

  • I tried them all yesterday and they sound great. But… when I compare them to Tonex captures, Tonex wins in my personal opinion

  • Mate – it sounds like a great plugin. What you consider 'dark' is old school tones that were supposed to be aided by studio EQ on high frequency (either 16k, 10k or 3k – or all of them in bits). The 'tones' are unique, distinct, characteristic and classics. UAD did once again amazing work. The off-axis placements are often the ones that can create long-standing, classic rock tones that have shaped the history of rock and roll! Enjoy. Fil 'SoloDallas', USA

  • Very much like my boomer tones! Though… it seems like the plugin suffers from the typical issue I'm finding with soft amps – 'wobbly sustain', for the lack of a better term 😀
So hard to get a nice, evenly distorted/saturated sustain… no idea why. Maybe I'm the culprit. Bogren AMP Knobs got me the closest to what I would consider satisfactory

  • The Living End!!! Was thinking at the start of the video that it would be interesting if you played or mentioned them – and you did.

  • Really reminds me of green day for some reason. We have reached the point where you can almost buy anything from anywhere and it sounds great.

  • I think UAD has done a great job with these, and it really works well with the pop punk style that you’re playing.
