Hey everybody! I'm just now realizing there is an issue with the audio ace's solo. I've been able to figure out the issue and will re upload with corrected audio. This is my first time making a video like this. Sorry about that! LOL
I like Ace but too much effects! His shock me solo from Alive 11 is very memorable but this is a little too heavy on space. Less space more Ace
???? seriously
Spot on, thank you for your critique….SPACE WITH ACE!!!!
Many guitar greats have been copied but nobody to this day sounds like Ace.
Ace is in a class all by himself????⚡????⚡
That kinda Shocked me. ⚡️
Ace was quoted in an interview saying, "If I knew I was going to go on to inspire so many future guitarists, I would have practiced more. "…ha!
Amazing? Its good but not great and im a fan of Space Ace.
I bought a guitar after I saw then on the KISS ALIVE tour!!! After i saw how cool Ace Frehley looked i wanted to play. So i Bought the guitar that May. I went on to play in 2 80's metal bands which included a KISS set!! Graduated from USC have accomplished many genres of music. But my roots are old KISS Songs!!! I still like listening to those old songs once in s while!!! Thanks Ace for planting the seed in me!!! You are honored on my wall in my lesson studio. Your #1 bud love ya Ace!!!!
Ace is just as influential in the 70s as Page and Edward.
That great tone you hear? Ace has said in interviews that he wasn't plugged into the Marshall stacks, but was plugged into Fender Twins that were miked into the PA underneath the stage.
Are you related to Ryan Reynolds because you are like his twin brother for real !!!
Your nuts
Sounds like noise
Bud your a Dutch bag ????
i really thought he had 3 pickup banks
Alive 2 was my first album ever, As a kid Ace was a hero, then Eddie LOL, still love the Shock Me solo….it’s amazing.
Ace is a hack
Sounds like my 11 year old brother that don't know what he's playing he's just throwing shit out there.
This is not a good solo.
This >>> https://youtu.be/Yni9Qu76UyA?si=vYP-0FwBkUHLk9dH is a good solo.
The incredible Ace Frehley!
Feedback is a function of speaker to instrument proximity, and any form amplification will do it as long as there is a speaker in the loop.
As for Ace's tone, I'll agree it's pretty cool; but there is absolutely no musicality in this solo, just a mish mash of basic pentatonic riffs.
Funny how it sounds like bridge pickup, yet the switch is in neck position… Oh, OK, it's definitely not neck pickup!
I was 12 when he did that. I grew out of Kiss very quickly and started listening to Schenker, Blackmore, Van Halen etc… Ace is not that good. I was better at 16 yrs old. I like those Marshalls you have. Ok, it was cool in 77.
I seen them live several times in that era. The flaming smoking guitar was always a nice touch.
I'm wondering if he might have used a tape echo effect which would not have been a floor pedal?
Tommy Bolin was playing with the James Gang earlier than this and used a tape echo on a stand on stage so he could twist the knobs himself live.
Tommy Bolin's Standing In The Rain song from the James Gang Bang album features this classic tape echo effect at the opening of that track.
On the album version they pan the opening left and right in your headphones and it took me years to figure out how he made that sound.
There's also a live version of Tommy with the James Gang on The Midnight Special show and you can see his echo stand and watch him twist it's knobs. That video is now on YouTube.
Ace has a very similar tape echo sound in this video.
That is one of his best sounding and performance of a solo as is the one in Shock Me off ALIVE 2!!! This is the reason he's one of my top 5 guitar heroes! Thanks!
I saw the Destroyer tour in Nashville at the Municiple Auditorium 7/21/76. As an almost 13-year-old kid who had been playing for about 2 years at the time, that concert sealed the deal. Ace was always my favorite KISS member, and a hero for a short time. As KISS crested in fame a few years later it took its toll on him. I last saw him play 3 years ago opening for Alice Cooper. Glad he's able to play still but he's a shadow of his former self…
Saw Ace in 78 couldn’t hear for days. Have all the Kiss albums up to Unmasked besides the solo albums, Ace’s is the best. King of the bends! Got my first drum kit in 75, all I wanted to do was play drums with Ace. Peter was good but Ace was the reason I learned all those Kiss albums.
You got to be fucking kidding. Pure noise. Guitar tone. You mean the echoplex turned just about all the way up.
Ace was KEY to what KISS was in their stellar past!!! Truly a cornerstone of the band. Too bad it didn't work out for the long haul. ACE ????????????
I get controlled feedback from a modeler every night. I use a monitor wedge pointed back at me. The guitar is a modeler, too. As far as this solo, it's very Page influenced- and so was everybody else in 1977 that wasn't Clapton influenced.
DAMN RIGHT MAN…..o'l "SPACE" ACE FREHLEY…was one of my MAIN INSPIRATIONS TO even wanna LEARN how to play the guitar……and I was an ABSOLUTE KISS FANATIC……Saw the KISS ALIVE II TOUR.(young-ticket for Christmas present) i wasn't but about 10-12 yrs old or so…..Parents took me…LMAO…ANYWAYS….WHAT A INNOVATOR ALL THE KISS BAND MEMBERS WERE…MAKE-UP–COSTUMES–FIRE–SMOKE–BREATHING FIRE–SPITTING BLOOD–AND ACE'S SHOCK ME SOLO–AND THE "smoker baby" guitar also….. JUST AN INCREDIBLE,ASTOUNDING LIVE STAGE SHOW AND PRESENCE THEY HAD …… IT LOOKED EXACTLY LIKE–THE INSIDE ALBUM COVERS when ya opened up the KISS ALIVE II ALBUM…..amazing for sure…..the lifts bringing em -AND THE DRUMS UP-during PETER's solo…just a CRAZZZY CRAZZZZY NIGHT IT WAS…. Then, when ACE LEFT KISS, AND STARTED UP the band Frehley's Comet…he came to my hometown, had an autograph signing session….and i took my ol acoustic Yamaha 410 i had…and got to meet …MY GUITAR HERO…ACE FREHLEY….He signed my guitar, and was just so damned FUNNY,DOWN TO EARTH,AND A COOL ASS GUY with everyone there man…..what an experience it was….I'll see if can find a pic for ya….. but yeah …ACE WAS A TOTAL HAM BRO….HILARIOUS AS HELL, AND THAT ALL SO CONTAGIOUS ASS LAUGH OF HIS WAS RIPPIN IT UP DA WHOLE TIME…..Thanks for ALL THE WONDERFUL MEMORIES KISS-AND ACE FREHLEY…..AN INSPIRATION TO ME…AND MANY, MANY OTHERS AS WELL….. PEACE…..#Musicmaker69 JRiley
who ever decided to call Kiss Bubble Gumish needs heir head examined his tone is so sought after in the guitar world
To me a far better example of a Guitarist who didn't know a lot of theory, had an advanced ear for music and the ability to execute technical solos was Edward Van Halen. Talk about a naturally gifted musician with an incredible ear.
You are right. The best musicians know when not to play.
I was SO into KISS in 77'!I
All these years later still listen to the early stuff occasionally????????
Thanks for sharing, made me feel young again for a hot minute.

Great vid, glad I saw that. Very haunting guitar tone. I'm a Bass Player. What many non-musicians, and some supposed musicians, fail to realize is how important guitar tone or sound really is. They think Flea just picks up a Bass and makes it sound funky. No. Flea is using amp/Bass settings + effects such as Q-Tron to create a great sound/tone and then playing. It's not just the finger skill or even musical knowledge of a player of any instrument, it's also that musician's ability to create a great sound. Hendrix for example was a master at creating great sounds. This performance by Ace was astounding.
I was the dude that posted that Ace Frehley Solo Tokyo Japan 1977, WAY back when. And yeah, I absolutely agree with your take on it. While I appreciate a player’s speed and dexterity, this particular solo just sounds like the Marshalls are on the verge of going super nova, due to the anti gravitational feedback, black hole time dilation delays, and the Jendelian nebula pouring out of his LP. Cool you reposted it, and great commentary. RAWK!
I can't do better, myself, so I find this plenty worthy ????
His soloing here sounds better and is more interesting than anything he played on their recordings.
Ace was more influential than great. He's the reason I started playing guitar…until I discovered Joe Perry. ????
I applaud you for posting this. Yes Ace is a great player that plays with a lot of feel ! I have noticed that a lot of guitar players look down and even shun players like Ace once they’ve crossed over to other styles of music ,country , jazz, classical, or whatever. Yet players like Ace are the ones who inspired them to pick up the guitar in the first place! Lol ! It’s like they’re embarrassed to admit it !..as if they have a certain aesthetic they have to adhere to or they themselves be shunned from their little cliquish community ..haha Ace’s solo album is a work of art from start to finish prove me wrong! Thanks again for posting this!
There is so much distortion you can barely hear what notes he is playing. Not my style.
Ace, one of the top 100 greatest, guitar players in rock history.
Ace has never had a lot of unusual Technics. But his solo's always fit the songs perfectly.
When Ace writes a solo it becomes part of the song.
Too distorted and too much echo. Can't hear what he's playing cool solo though ????
That tobacco sunburst Les Paul Deluxe sounded better in a live setting than any of the guitars he used after.
Kiss are musical hacks… They invented a great show. They tapped into the vibe of the time… They connected with the kids of the day,..But they are awful musicians… They were just good enough to play the part. That it.. Unbelievable solo? Not really.
He must've been trippin'. Sloppy as hell, but luckily in a 70's way.
