  • Hi Greg, thax for posting – great work! Did you ever hear about Hellmut Hattler, bass player of german band KRAAN, for ex. Holiday am Marterhorn or Wintruper Echo have nice bass lines, maybe you could … best wishes from germany!

  • Thanks Greg. One thing that stands out: in the official sheet music (distributed by Sony/Warner), the chromatic walk you did on measure 18 is not a C, C#, D, but a B, C, then the D. So instead of frets 1-2-3 on the B string, they call for 0-1-3. I know with notes this low it's hard to hear the difference, but that's how they annotated it.

Otherwise this was super helpful – some of those bass fills are so fast they're easy to mess up, and I appreciate you taking the time to put this together.

  • Great lesson Greg…. I am learning this on a four string bass and I find that drop D tuning (of the E string) resolves all the issues of not sounding deep enough ????

  • The only cover on YouTube to get it spot on. Without a 5 string ill need to get inventive but this is what I'll start from. Thanks.

  • Hey Greg thanks for the awesome work you did on this transcript of Bruno Mars Uptown Funk, loved it! Also it would be great if you could do it again on a 4 string bass. I'm working on my slap and pop technique and trying to get it clean and tight as yours is a challenge. Cheers mate! Tony from down under.

  • I just discovered you yesterday and I love your covers! My eyes are glued to the screen, watching the chart and tabs go by and hoping I don't miss your slaps. 🙂 I was curious how amazing creators as yourself get around the copyright concerns. I'm hoping there will always be a way for you and others to showcase popular songs, which is a win-win for everyone, promoting the publisher's content and the creator's expression, and a super blessing for those of us who want to learn. If you could, please comment on how the shared copyright works on youtube. I've seen videos but…they are from the youtube employee perspective or a lawyers' and I'd love to hear your POV. I thank you. Keep up the great videos and know we are watching! Love, Arabella 🙂

  • Thank you once more for your excellent cover and tab!
It sounds like you pluck a string in the slap parts, is that correct?
It isn't in the tab but the sound is definitely there…

  • I like that you have the sheet music and tabs right on the screen simultaneously. Great video. Thanks.

  • Thanks. I don’t play bass but I learned a lot just watching you and reading the music. I play piano so while obviously not the same it transferred well.

  • Incredible job. I've got to learn this for a gig and you made it easy for me. I love this format – keep up the great work!

  • The slapping sounded like a motor snap with the snap on the "downbeat" and the "and", and the slap on the "ee's" and "da's". Anyone agree? Great video BTW!

  • Hey, I enjoyed your vid and I’m new to the bass, so can I follow that tab on a four string bass?

  • Greg, thank you so much for this detailed transcription. I learned it for my cover band. Working through the transcription in small sections helped me to master the whole thing. I now play it with confidence even though it’s still challenging.

  • Awesome tutorial. I am a guitarist learning the bass and found i was able to play it at a gig after following this video (like 25 times)

  • Thank for this great Cover/Lesson. This song for me has a steep learning curve. It took me many playthoughs and a few hrs to get it down pat. Now I can play it in my sleep lol. Your tone here is fantastic. Are you using any plugins, effects, or compression on your bass? Or are you playing straight into a DI?

  • Can you make a video for Duran Duran " The Reflex" and "Girls on film" and slow it down like you did to uptown funk.
