Viscount Legend One Review
Viscount Legend One Review, Walk-Through & Tutorial! This is an in-depth review of the new Viscount Legend One stage keyboard, which comes in 61 and 73 key versions. I bought the 73 key and I’m super happy; the organ engine (from the Legend Soul) is spectacular, and the other sounds, key action, user interface and connectivity are great.

Great review! Any notion as to whether the viscount's sample engine is/will be user accessible for expanding or replacing sounds a la Nord?
I have Legend Solo with the waterfall keybed and it is really nice, dynamic and responsive when used as midi controller for piano and other sounds. Not weighted but very usable.
Great review and thanks for the shoutout! ???? We also have our dedicated Viscount division of the Classic Organ Works company, which is where I'm typing this comment from right now.
We hope you'll continue having fun with your Legend One for many years to come. ????

Firmware update 1.0.1 includes the “catch” option for drawbars. Well done!
Nord this, Yamaha that. I understand leaving the Korg Continental in the dust bin
but the Hammond Sk series is still a serious contender.
I sure do like how this Viscount works though.
Really informative and detailed review. The clarification on the key action is a big deal for me, as the 73 could be an ideal compromise action for piano, electric piano and organ.
I've played Nord Stages for over 15 years, and I have lived with playing piano on a waterfall action because I found the reverse too fatiguing.
Would love to try the 73 somewhere soon.
What are the quality of the internal sounds compared to Legend 70’s or SK-Pro. Think you may have addressed that as I was writing this comment. Wonderful presentation. ty. Could be an all in one gigging board, or to pair it with my CP73 or SV2-73
Nice review, and helpful. Do you know if the keyboard transmit aftertouch over midi or USB? Thanks
Excellent review. Can you explain more how I can do, for example, a split of an organ with leslie/overdrive in the right hand and a clav with pedal wah and amp simulator on the left hand? How the effect chain would work in that case?
Thanks a lot. Great Stage Keyboard. But i hold my Vox Continental 73. Better Piano sound
Great job, accurate review. I had the chance to play the Legends soul in a Deep Purple tribute soiree (see link) and I consider it the most satisfying among the clones I have played sofar (yc, which is very good, Crumar, which is also very good, Nord and Roland). Congrats for your purchase and for your really enjoyable review.

Nice video… I especially liked seeing the detail in the User Interface and Programs/Memory sections! As for the actions… I believe the 73 uses the Fatar TP/8Piano actions, also used in the Dexibell S1 and numerous Kurzweil models (Artis7 and PC3, among others). Compared to the TP/9 in the Numa Compact series, yes, the keys are longer, and more even in response from the front to the back. I believe the 61 uses the Fatar TP/8O, as you say, but to my knowledge that action has always been semi-weighted (and no unweighted version is listed on Fatar's web site, though I suppose a company might be able to ask Fatar to make them a custom unweighted variation). One way both of these actions can vary, though, is with the tension of the springs, which is why, for example, the Dexibell J7 and assorted Nord models with TP/8O "push back" with more force than the TP/8O action in the Hammond SK Pro, which in turn pushes back more than some other TP/8O models. Which means that just knowing which Fatar action a board uses doesn't necessarily tell you how quite how that action will feel in a different board.
So how much for your yc61?
I emailed Viscount as I was also confused about the 61/73 actions. Reply as follows
thank you for contacting us and for your interest.
The Legend One 61 has the waterfall Fatar keyboard (the same as our Legend, Legend Live, Legend Solo); the Legend One 73, on the other hand, has a semi-weighted Fatar keyboard (more piano-like).
I hope I have been helpful.
Kind regards,
thanks a lot for the nice review that clarifies a lot of my questions, i will order probably as soon as i can here in germany.. a question, is there a way or will it be possible in future that you can simulate having a second drawbarset for each upper and lower manual that you can set up on the fly and activate like with the press of a button similar to black keys on the real hammond b3? i see there is a small button on the side above the two drawbarsets – can it be used to prepare a "second" drawbarset? would be so cool.. if not, could this be done by viscount as an update?
Tony, I was waiting to the end for some ORGAN (I mean pipe organ ????) sound demos. I thought that a few are included. I will never get a stage keyboard without good representation of pipe/church organ sounds. Otherwise I may as well use any keyboard (I currently have Juno-D8) with my piano and organ VSTs.
Can its Digital Audio Interface be used for digital audio input from VSTs? It was not clear to me when listening to your explanation.
Thank you. You have clarified many issues for me!
Could you tell me please what the warranty period for this keyboard is?
One more comment – I was surprised by your Yamaha YC61 and Legend One price comparison. Yamaha YC61 is C$2700 and Legend One is C$2570 + ~ C$260 (import fees) = C$2830. There is also shipping cost.
Yamaha CK88 is C$2000 ????
Ps. I actually have Legend One 61 in my cart but I think that I will pass. This stage keyboard is for a band player like you.
Congratulation for your deep review…. Now no doubts anymore on this instrument!!! Very cool … But I was searching for a new piano stage 88 keys end for the moment and for the budget my first choice is studiologic Numa X piano GT with the new fantastic Fatar TP 400/W …. What do you think about this piano stage ? I also like the Dexibell Vivo S10 with the same keybad !!!! I'm Italian and consider that I live 15 miles from Studiologic company and 30 miles from Dexibell Company !!! ???????????? and also Crumar it's another Italian piano brand very very cool ..I love the Seven !!! But i repeat you for me I think Numa X Piano GT Is the best !!!!!
I've been waiting for some hands-on online reviews to talk in depth about the key lip shape and the semi-weighted key mechanism feel and trigger point. I had hoped you would address that, especially on the 73. My concerns are that A) the lip on the key versus the rolled edge of a waterfall key could make palm swipes painful if the lip is not milled perfectly smooth; and B) other companies used semi-weighted actions as a compromise for playing both organ and piano sounds on a keybed that works reasonably well for both. In my experience, the hybrid keybed does feel okay, but is often sprung heavier and makes the action too sluggish for light-touch Hammond playing. And finally C) does the Legend One 73 (and 61 for that matter) have multiple trigger points to that the organ will begin to sound near the top of the key travel, while pianos and other sounds have a more natural feeling trigger at a lower point?
Thanks again for addressing many of these concerns in your review!
Bro, this is an excellent review. You’ve answered most of my questions. Well done and thanks for sharing.
Personal opinion: Viscount tonewheel simulation is the best on the market currently.
Fact: I bought a Viscount Legend some years ago (full equipped two manuals hammond clone); Viscount made 3 firmware upgrade in 5 years. Every update improved meaningfully the overall simulation (rotary speaker usually).
So I expect Legend One to be upgraded and improved through the years.
Thanks for the review it was really helpful. I have one on order but it will be a few months before it comes. How do the strings sound? I use piano and strings quite a bit
