What is the Worship Amp sound?

Just The Tone

Today, I’m going to break down how I dial in an amp for Worship Guitar. Dialing in an amp can be daunting, so I’m going to simplify the process of how I get a rounded, chimey, edge of breakup sound. That way, whether you are using your amp at home, an amp at church, or backline gear at a gig, you’ll have a process to get it sounding like you in no time. And while the tone we are dialing in today is meant for modern Worship, and ambient styles of playing, this process can be applied to just about any amp, modeler, and genre.

There are so many layers to guitar tone, but I think getting the amp right is arguably the most important step. The amp is the foundation of our tone, so it’s critical to get our amp sound optimized to get the most out of our pedals and guitars. I’ve broken the process down as follows:
Setting your Guitar
Regardless of the guitar you are using, I always use the harshest sound possible when dialing in an amp, meaning bridge pickup, volume and tone all of the way up. If we can get our amp sounding good here, then our neck and middle positions typically sound good as well.
Dialing in EQ and Gain
I’ll walk you through how I set the knobs on the amp, and how I adjust to refine my sound, and achieve an edge of breakup tone with crisp highs and round lows.
Amp with FX
Finally, I’ll show you how our dialed in amp sounds with lush delay and reverb sounds quintessential to Worship guitar.
