  • I agree the Magnatone is awesome, but the AFD100 might not have been given a fair shake here. Y’all say it sounds great live when it’s cranked up, ok, cool. Crank it up. The thing has a built in attenuator. You can crank the master volume and gain and roll that power knob all the way back to .5W. I’ve never played one of these and would have been curious to see if it keeps the same tone like it’s supposed to.

Next, maybe you did this, but it was hard to tell. That amp is designed for how slash uses it, which is with his base tone at 7 on the volume knob. For cleans he rolls down to 2-3 and for leads he rolls it up to 10. I’ve played some similar JCMs that way and gotten really great clean tones with the neck pickup. And the base tone at 7 gets rid of some of the highs and nasal qualities you highlighted on the bridge pickup.

Now, I realize you were trying to sell your two new half stacks, but let’s be fair to the afd100 ????????????????

  • You guys are nuts! Sitting 2 feet from that cab and the db hit 113 at the back of the room. Should have kept watching 117dB brain melting.

  • Awesome hearing those Snakepit riffs. That is IMO Slash's best work, the 2 Snakepit albums had a real attitude about them. Great demo!

  • Not a fan of the amp. If it wasn’t a slash signature I’d probably have a different opinion of it, but I don’t think it suits Guns N’ Roses material. The amp doesn’t have the gnarly sound like the modded one the AFD was based on, which sounds more like him. I’m of the opinion Marshall should just reissue the AFD as a permanent model.

  • AFD 100 is a much better amp, magnatome doesn't sound like slashs tone I don't think

  • some fun facts about 110 db: 15 minutes of exposure to it damages your hearing for the rest of your life. i suppose the other facts don’t really matter so they.

  • This amp confuses me….. Slash’s tone famously comes from a Silver Jubilee, which costs £1,300 or so.

What’s so special about a £4,000 amp that sounds exactly like a Silver Jubilee?

  • Wondering why this guy is always making eye contact like he's looking for approval for whatever he's playing

  • Props for playing all those Slash riffs. And the AFD vs the Magnatone was a great little bit. The Magnatone really sounds like Slash's sound distilled into its purist form and then kicked up a notch. More open, less saturation. Nice. ????

  • Exceptional playing by Ben! And honestly, exactly what we need to hear when reviewing Slash models. It was a treat to hear Give Into Me at the start as well, such an underrated gem as it's not one of Jackson's main hits. The amp sounds amazing, the only thing that's tough to swallow is the price — is there more to this than a regular 4×12? Because I can't get my head around a £2000+ price tag for a standard cab
