Guitarist writing a bassist part: Parasite by Kiss. Even though Ace is the real deal, Gene Simmons kept up with him on that line. Listen to the Wildwood Isolated tracks from Alive!.
Can't play it. What
that kinda sound like 1612
I’m songwriter and guitarist in my band so whenever the bass player sits down he just says, what am I playing today?
Thom wrote the National Anthem part for Radioheads Kid A.
If musicians understood it they would really be able to perform as a band
Heresy!
I am at a point in my life where I don't care who wrote what, as long as it makes me money.
Very good point. Leave your ego at the door and serve the song ????????BRAVO!
I've never had a problem with a guitarist, vocalist or anyone telling me what bass line they hear in their head
The camera quality is so good on these videos I always think it’s an ad
The inverse is also true.
In 1970, our bass player was drafted for the Vietnam War, as were many others that year. Unable to find a replacement, I switched to bass and we got someone else to play guitar. He was shocked when one day at rehearsal, the drummer stopped, turned to me and said, “Would you please show him (the guitar player) how to play that part?” Big surprise when the Bass player teach the guitar player his parts.
And then you get fired for not coming up with enough parts
Wrathchild's breakdown…killed my bassist during our Maiden covers. Following the guitar line was just another world…
The music is alive and needs to be heard and felt and lived. Sometimes it speaks though unexpected voices but it is still the music. Respect the music
wait till the drummer tells you what to play
Tetsuya Ogawa: hmm?!?
My thinking is “just play the part, it’s only music, we aren’t gonna run out of it”
James hetfield literally wrote Jason's parts on load and reload. Songs like Devils dance, Until it sleeps and King nothing are great examples. Of course, Jason added he's own flare to the parts because he knew bass better than James did.
Matt Bellamy (the lead singer and guitarist of Muse) wrote the bassline for “Hysteria”
Ted Nugent I believe wrote out bass lines in the Amboy Dukes? He was explaining how when he played the rhythm guitar he could hear the bass line that fit. Sometimes it's called collaboration. Other times not so much LOL!
When writing with my band I always check my ego and pride at the door. I don’t care who comes up with a cool riff, as long as it fits the song. ????
sadly all these advanced techniques and tricks we are practicing are an overkill
its so much better when you just play roots on time
And that comes with maturity and experience.
