  • It depends on the bass too, many different sounds with only your right hand. Pluck light, strong, with a pick, slap, nails cut or not…

  • My hand naturally goes to neck pickup, although im quite tall so my arm length makes it feel awkward to pluck the bridge.

  • You are right
But to me ut depends on what you are playing

The bridge pickup is thighter and lighter

The neck pickup is normal and sounds cool

The other part is so dom dom dom

So i chose what to play with where i want to pluck ❤

  • I also pick in 3 places. Over the strings. Over THE strings. And OVER the strings. Great tone!

  • For me, playing over the neck is perfect when the band lowers the dynamic to emphasize the vocal parts, over the neck pickup is the "normal" tone and closer to the bridge it's just when I want the bass to show up more

  • This Chan and that man have led the revolution! I was quite disturbed by the number of midi/ button mashers vs actual young musicians.
Through genuine and time tested lessons and advice you’ve done it. Always level headed opinions and no fk snobbery either.

  • A lot of Jaco tones come from between the bridge pickup and bridge itself. Obviously Scott is aware you can really play just about anywhere up and down the strings and find some effect/purpose to it.

  • I like to play in between the pickups. Feels like the right amount of tension and the tone is pretty sweet (at least on my jazz)

  • You forgot between the 2 pickups, which is the best place hands down, also between the neck pickup and neck, also though a bit rarer, between the bridge and bridge . I basically don't play over the neck pickup

  • I play off the neck like geezer for that fat tone. Sounds so sick. If im using fuzz i will sometimes play near the neck pickup

  • I used to be strictly a neck plucker because i love a fatter bass tone but ive adapted to throwing in some bridge plucking as well as the jam requires.

  • I would say there is the 4th one. It is over the 12 fret 🙂 My father taught me about it. You have to play super carefully but it gives you the warmest tone possible which is great for some parts of the song

  • One thing not mentioned is that each area mentioned feels very different to the hand when plucked: by the bridge it feels tighter, over the fretboard it feels smooth and glassy, and over the neck pick up it has the sweet spot of both. I almost exclusively play over the neck pick up because it has the best feel and sound for my preferences. The strings are farther apart the closer to the bridge you go, so that also needs to be accounted for in ones playing.
