I really love A Standard tuning! but playing in Metal bands I really have to tune to whatever the guitar players are using because of the overuse of open strings.
I tune my e string to c# when I play sometimes
Wait in the 70s ???? I thought this guy wasn’t a day over 30 at oldest !!! This man has to be a Demi god
he looks 35 max what the hell
Dude, imagine the B string.
This man is 63, like how.
I know you get this alot but Jesus Christ loves you very much and I don't want you to miss out on what he has for you to please turn to Jesus ✝️????????????
He was jamming on the base. I had a 5 string base and instead of top string being a D it was a B. Which is even lower. It's more in the 15-20hrts
“I tune down a whole step”
Death core guitarist: tunes down 7 octaves
dgcf on a p-bazz with flatz baybee
Noice
My guy looks 35 at best holy shit????
Please tell me this man don't remind you of Tyler the creator.
The title says "why Andrew Gouche detunes his bass." THE BASS IS NOT DETUNED. Detuning means it's out of tune. This guy's bass is just tuned in a different tuning: D standard.
Ugh…. he said "Joe Smiff"… smh
when he started playing in the WHATS?
Lots of bass players do that for the same reasons.. as a guitarist I see no need but some guys do.
Real ones tune C G D A
Lmaooo the Stygian complex tunes down 12 WHOLE STEPS ????
Yes there was dummy
Yes Eb songs can suck, and it's the smoothest key IMO.
Did he play bass as a 5 year old or something? I was surprised when he said playing in the 70's ????♂️????
“I wanted to be lower than him”
Aint that the truth brother
Also in a live act you always want to tune half step down it really helps the singer not get fatigued
Fun fact in the last two System of a Down albums, Daron Malakian tunes his guitar to (drop D first, I.e tune the E string down to D, easy just hit the d string and e string and tune down till E is now D) but than everything another half step down is really drop Dflat.
Look up to he song Lonely Day by SOAD, it’s a great example of how fun playing in a flat key can be.
My band play such weird s**t, that I play a 5-string… and then tune every string down a while tone…
F
C
G
D
A
We’re called Lunch Money Life, please pray for me ????
Your a bad man on that bass
Wouldn’t this be considered down-tuning though, not de-tuning?
I had to learn this early on too.
Picking up a big brick colored hym book and all the songs people would sing. I could never verify it but it was just easier for most people I've had to follow to sing between C# and Eb so even if that's not the key in the book you tune down and work it out.
Ain't no way he's 62 years old
Whats the song?
THE 70s?!?!
For the laughs he says
Sacrificing the ability to play open strings to do that… Interesting, and not much of a sacrifice for a bassist too, am I wrong? Do bassists use that low open E or A often when they are in the key of E flat?
The title is misleading. when I think of "detuning" I think of something real wacky. Not just a step or two.
THAT'S EXACTLY HOW I STARTED PLAYING TUNED DOWN A WHOLE STEP ON MY BASS TOO AH THAT'S COOL
thats not detuning? wtf click bait……
Detuning is very different from tuning down lol
The seventies? This dude looks 26!
That’s not detuned, he just uses a different tuning… John Lennon used to actually detune his guitar a little, like put it out of tune, before shows in the earlier days of the Beatles to provide a raunchier sound
Gouche is a beast. Love his work with Andrae Crouch
Yeah, I have started playing down a whole step a WHOLE lot more. Even on Five strings.
I can’t get get over not having 5 strings. I mostly stay at the lower strings. Most of the greats play 4 string. If I had a 4 string, I’d have to tube down
