"Always play close to the neck with an octave effect"… Plays next to the bridge for the REST of the video. LOL… Just having fun, thanks for the tips!
You keep playing over the bridge pickup
Thanx
Very high value video, thanks a lot for this.
i just saw a video from thomann where they reviewed 5 different bass octaver and the guy playing tested them playing basically only low on the e string and he tested the tracking by going up chromatically from the low e, he also tested the 2 oct down mode on those pedals the same way, the audio was costantly clipping and it was HORRIBLE!
I want to use an octave pedal on my Jazz bass with black nylons, and after seeing this I am convinced it will be a good combo, especially with my fuzz pedal ????
Could y’all do a video about the Ampeg sgt-di please?
The glitch sounds cool
Line 6 helix pedal board not the hc stomp
Theoretically, you can connect an octaver via a splitter and put an equalizer with upper frequencies cut in front of it. This is an overkill, of course, but it opens up interesting possibilities. Splitter is for controling dry/wet, ofcourse.
Whats your experience using looper pedals with a bass?
Please do a video on the Boss Tone Studio using the Katana amps ❤
Great tips very nice vid! I wanna thank U.
I hope nickelback_allan is killing it a bass after these lessons.
Great info I can’t wait to incorporate these tips
Thanks for the vid. My guitar player let me borrow his OC-2. Took it home, plugged it in, it sounded like crap, I didn't understand what or why, and gave it back. I should have watched this video first!
Thanks Ian for clearing the mud off my brain using an OC2 MIT. Great video…cheers from Toronto Canada ????????
This is a great overview on the octave pedal. I took Scott's recommendation with the Micro POD. Thank you, Sir!
You've seen what the HX is capable of, but I'm interested into what you can do with something a lot cheaper, like the Zoom B1X four.
That Tony Levin part is ????????????????????????
hi! that was so eyeopening! :D. What was the pedal in the video?
Fuckin plebs.. OC2, distort it, play it on 6 strings, play awesome cky riffs. the "glitching" is part of the beauty.. but you know keep complaining about "tracking issues" ,use a computer like a "real musician". Fucking bassists..
I’ve been calling him “Martin”. Ian. John. Ivan. Ivan Martinovich. Giovanni Martini. Juan Martín. Johannes Martinus.
Don't ask what an octave pedal can do for you: ask what you can do for an octave pedal!
Ian, thank you so much for this! I recently got a Tech 21 Bass Fly Rig 2 that includes an Octaver/Fuzz/Envelope Filter section and it's taken some time to understand how it works and to get the best sound out of it. Tech 21 did put out a tutorial video that helped tremendously, and much of what they said, you said the exact same thing. So it's good to hear it twice. Some great tips here such as 1. approach it almost like an instrument and there will be a learning curve and 2. you need to change your technique to get the best results. You offered some great specific tips like playing close to the neck. And 3, where you play the note on the string makes a difference. I found playing a D on the E string sounds better than an open D or on the 5th fret of the A string. So thanks.
Effects are still new to me, as I've always been a fairly simple bassist with a straight ahead rock tone. Watching you now for a few years inspired me to give some effects a try, and the Bass Fly Rig 2 has been perfect for this.
PS, so strange to see you in your old set up.
So technically I should have no issues with a octave pedal using a 5 string?
does anyone here knows how to use the octave pedal from garage bass? mine doesnt really work…..
I kinda like the 'bridge glitch' tbh. Thank you for the vid!
scooped a OC-2 silver screw for 120
Warwick Thumb 5.
Didn't all 68 Jazz Basses have round inlays?
awesome words here
I cannot believe I just wasted 3 minutes watching this goofy ass video about how to use octave pedals by this cat, then continued to watch the rest of this (again) goofy ass non funky nonsense. Btw, the F# on his bass was rattling, but he was talking over it.
Thank you!
My octave pedal plays out of tune lol
Its crazy to see how large this channel has grown. I remember when Scott was first starting out. Congratulations! U guys deserve it! Thanks for allowing so many people to a wealth of knowledge.
I sent back my MXR bass octave deluxe because it glitched before I saw this video… No I have to buy it back from B stock !
I’ve never had any tracking latency problems with the EHX Pitchfork.
Really cool video man ✌????
This was such a revelation, thank you Sir ❤❤❤❤
This is a great video.
You've restored my faith in my BOSS Super Octave OC-3! Thanks!
Thank you so much for this, this really helped me get a better tone without the glitches.
The Flashlight tone is flawless
I`m tryin' to mix the octave pedal with a flanger for an bass intro to a kind of "reggaeish" song. I'm using the pedals just for the intro which with a D, I just play a low E below that but I can rethink it.
So, I've watch your video, may the flanger efect ( very slight) make the octave pedal get shitty? The flanger pedal is after a few pedals from the octave pedal.
