Why every bassist HAS to own a J Bass (Bass Tales Ep.15 w/Nicole Row)

► Check Out Nicole Here: https://bit.ly/3iThvkD

There are only a few things that all bass players agree on:

Flea belongs on every Top 10 list.
Jaco only needed four strings.
And every bassist HAS to try a Jazz Bass.
Almost everything else is up for debate…well, almost.

In today’s video we catch up with LA session bassist Nicole Row to discuss her awesome bass collection, from her modded P Bass to the Jazz Bass she bought for her gig with Panic! at the Disco.

As always, see you in the shed…

Scott 🙂

  • If anybody listens to this and tells me that the female brain is "just the same"…. you are lying to yourself. I love how this girl is being herself, a feminine girl, not feeling the need to masculinize

  • In case anyone is wandering what that knob is in the green P bass that gives 'different P bass sounds' – it's a Tone Styler.

  • More videos with Nicole please. She seems so friendly and nice when she speaks and she plays so well.

  • P bass is the best. But you can't mess with tone knob that's where the mojo is found. (I turn my tone to 0)

  • Going to play on the video itself and not knowing the music from Panic at the Disco or any of their personnel, I can definitely tell you Nicole is very relatable and very good. If somebody pressured me into getting a P-bass the way she said she was, I would have made it to PJ (ir is it JP?) bass. I would have wanted that bridge pickup and the slimmer neck.

  • it's a wonder – a so beautiful girl …and in the same time she is also a massively bass player – 'she is so fine' /as Noel Redding sings on that Hendrix record… ***

  • To be honest, the only bass I think can replace a Jazz is a Warwick, it's basically the same if you replace the electronics. I put in Bartolini NTMB and it sounds like a Jazz, very low noise. I don't like the body shape of Warwick, not at all. Other than that, it plays well, which is why I bought it. I had tried an Alembic right before the Warwick, so It seemed like a way better deal at the time. I would prefer a chunkier body maybe even a hollow one, not used to playing all tucked close to my hip. My hips aint as good as they once was, momma. We all dying over here, that Warwick is crushing my spine with it's massive weight. For old ass bassists with white beards, that look like a wizard then you need light weight, think Starbass or something short scale. Don't fear the Reaper.

  • Such a beauty from inside out… love her demeanour. Oh yes, the J Bass, yes that's the main topic here… I love my Fender Jazz, American Pro Series, but my Sadowsky 5-string Metro is da bom!

  • I'm an old fart now, but it always amazes me to see such huge talent in such young people. Nicole is truly gifted and her modesty is a joy.

  • I'm currently playing with a Paramore tribute and at first I was a little bit overwhelmed with their tunings, but I guess this was one of the best advices from 5:20
Playing with the 5-string could mean more challenging digitations but it's worth it

  • That F Bass sounds and looks soooo good! Goosebumps! Had the opportunity to play this gorgeous fretless neck through F Bass about 25 years ago. It was amazing and i don't even think they make neck throughs anymore. It was brand new for $1600 and to this day i KICK my self in the arse for not buying it that day! It was gone when i went back. If it was that cheap it was probably more like 30 years ago. It had that organic look and tone like Nicole's bass. What a pair those two F basses would make. So that bass in this vid is awesome. I have played F basses afterwards that i was not thrilled about at all but that fretless was insane and this bass in the video looks to be insane as well. What a beautiful tone in her hands!

  • I'm a J-Bass guy myself. Not really a P fan, can't get on with the neck. Love that accoustic though. Sounds way better than mine.

  • I own one of the first fretless acoustic Breedlove basses. These were all solid wood. I love it ❤️ I put on black tape strings some time ago and it sounds and plays great

  • Nice to see a working pro whose main axes are J-style. Don't get me wrong, I love P's, and it's my primary tool, but the tyranny of the "it's got to be a P!!!" mindset with so many folks (including some top producers) has just gotten tiresome. J's sit in the mix and support the track in their own way that is just as killer, classic, and legendary (and not just for funky stuff).
